- The Tribe and the Monarchs meet for the 95th time in series history on Thursday night. ODU leads the all-time series 72-22, but W&M has won three of the last four meetings. Last year, the Monarchs snapped a three-game skid with an 83-69 victory in Norfolk.
Â
- For the fourth time in the last five years, W&M has improved to 6-1 to start the season. This year, the Tribe improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1987-88. The last three teams to start 6-1, all won the eighth game to move to 7-1.
Â
- W&M bounced back from its worst shooting performance of the season against Hartford to have its best night from the field when it shot 56.6-percent at Delaware State. The Tribe is now shooting 45.7-percent from the floor, which leads the CAA and ranks 40th in the nation.
Â
- The Tribe has scored, at least, 70 points in six of its seven games this season. The Green and Gold is averaging 73.7 points per game, which is the best in the conference and 70th in the nation. The 73.7 points per game would be the most in school history, and is currently 2.5 points per game more than the 1993-94 team, which averaged 71.2 points per game.
Â
- Freshman
Bre Bellamy has been named CAA Rookie of the Week for the back-to-back weeks. Last week the freshman averaged 10.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals. Last week, Bellamy earned the rookie of the week, while sophomore
Eva Hodgson was named the honorable mention player of the week.
Â
- Following her CAA Rookie of the Year honor last season, Hodgson has picked up where she left off and has been the Tribe's leading scorer in all seven games. After scoring the most points in the Division I era in a season opener (27), Hodgson reset her career-high with 29 points at Richmond. She is averaging 18.7 points per game, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.
Â
- Furthermore, Hodgson is one of two players nationally (as of Dec. 4) to be perfect from the free-throw line this season, as she has connected on her first 29 free throws.
Dating to back to March 1 of last season, Hodgson has hit 39 consecutive from the stripe.
Â
- Starting with her third career double-double at ECU, senior
Victoria Reynolds has been in double-figures in four of the last five games. In the game against the Pirates, she recorded season-highs with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and six steals. A Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention selection, Reynolds is averaging 12.1 points per game and 4.7 rebounds a night. She has been in double-figures in 43 career games and needs 126 more points to become the 21st player in school history with 1,000 career points.
Â
- Bellamy, who is the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week, became the third straight true freshman to earn an opening night start at Army in the opener. During coach Swanson's tenure with the Tribe, he has started at least one true freshman in five of the seven seasons he has been the coach. The rookie, who has gone on to start every game this season, has been in double-figures four times, including the last three games and is averaging 9.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks per game.
Â
- Junior
Bailey Eichner has enjoyed her enhanced role during her junior campaign and is off to a career start. Eichner first scored a career-high 11 points in the win at East Carolina, before adding a career-high eight rebounds at Richmond. The Cudahy, Wisc. native has been the first Tribe post player off of the bench in each contest and in her new role is averaging 4.6 points, and a team-high 5.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game. During the last four contests, the junior is averaging 6.5 rebounds a game.
Â
- A constant in the Tribe lineup since starting her career, junior
Nyla Pollard ranks fifth in the country and leads the CAA with a 4.14 assist-to-turnover ratio. Pollard is leading the team with 29 assists, while only having seven miscues this season. Pollard, who will make her 52nd career start vs. ODU, is averaging 5.3 points per game and had a season-high 10 points against Hartford.
Â
- W&M head coach
Ed Swanson became the 69th head coach in Division I history to win his 500th career game on Tuesday night against Hartford. Now at 501 wins, Swanson ranks as the 32nd active head coach in the country in terms of wins. He is closing in on becoming just the third coach in W&M history to win 100 career games as he sits at 95.
