WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary women's basketball team returns to action following a nine-day layoff for the holidays as it travels to George Washington for its non-conference finale on Sunday, Dec. 29. Tip time from the Charles E. Smith Center is set for 2 p.m. The Tribe is looking to match a season-best with a three-game winning streak with a win, which will be the third time this season it has accomplished that feat.
Â
- The Tribe and Colonials meet for 22nd time in series history on Sunday afternoon. The Green and Gold lead the all-time series 11-10 thanks to a 73-59 win in Williamsburg a season ago. The Colonials lead the all-times series 7-4 in DC, but this is the first meeting in the Nation's Capitol since 2012.
Â
- With a win today, W&M will have its second-most non-conference wins in school history. The Tribe had a 10-win non-conference season under head coach
Ed Swanson in 2016-17 and had nine wins in 2015-16 and 2017-18. The Tribe has won eight non-conference games already this season and also accomplished the feat in 2011-12 and 1989-90.
Â
 - W&M has had three players honored by the CAA for weekly awards already this season. Most recently, senior
Victoria Reynolds was named the CAA Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 9 as she averaged 19.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week. Previously, freshman
Bre Bellamy won back-to-back rookie of the week awards for the weeks of Nov. 25 and Dec. 2, and sophomore
Eva Hodgson was honorable mention player of the week for the week of Nov. 25.
Â
- For the eighth time in under head coach
Ed Swanson, W&M shot better than 55% in a contest, including setting the school record of 64.3% last March against Northeastern. The Tribe's 58.3% field goal percentage at VCU ranks tied for seventh under Swanson and is the seventh-best in school history. For the season, the Tribe is shooting 44.9%, which is tops in the CAA and ranks 40th nationally.
Â
- Because of its strong field goal percentage, W&M has also been scoring the ball at a high clip. The Tribe has scored, at least, 70 points in six of its 10 contests this year. The Green and Gold are averaging 70.8 points per game this season, which leads the CAA.
Â
- Following her CAA Rookie of the Year honor last season, Hodgson has picked up where she left off and has been the Tribe's leading scorer in all but one game. After scoring the most points in the Division I era in a season opener (27), Hodgson reset her career-high with 29 points at Richmond. She is averaging 18.2 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. Hodgson's 18.2 points per game is good for third in the CAA and 40th nationally.
Â
- Furthermore, Hodgson leads the country in free throw percentage as she is shooting 97.8% (44-for-45) from the free-throw line this season. After hitting her first 38 this season and 48 straight dating back to March 1 of last season. Following her only miss of the season at VCU, Hodgson has hit six straight from the free-throw line.Â
Â
- Starting with her third career double-double at ECU, senior
Victoria Reynolds has been in double-figures in six of the last eight games. In the game against the Pirates, she recorded 17 points, a season-high 12 rebounds, and six steals. During the last three games, Reynolds is averaging 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds a game. A Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention selection, Reynolds is averaging 13.2 points per game and 5.6 rebounds a night. She has been in double-figures in 45 career games and needs 79 more points to become the 21st player in school history with 1,000 career points.
Â
- Freshman
Bre Bellamy, who has won a pair of CAA Rookie of the Weeks, became the third straight true freshman to earn an opening night start at Army in the opener. During coach Swanson's tenure with the Tribe, he has started at least one true freshman in five of the seven seasons he has been the coach. The rookie, who has gone on to start every game this season, has been in double-figures four times and is averaging 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.
Â
- Junior
Bailey Eichner has enjoyed her enhanced role during her junior campaign and is off to a career start. Eichner first scored a career-high 11 points in the win at East Carolina, before adding a career-high eight rebounds at Richmond and against Old Dominion. Also against the Monarchs, Eichner tied or set career-highs with three assists, three steals, and four blocks. The Cudahy, Wisc. native has been the first Tribe post player off of the bench in each contest, and in her new role is averaging 3.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.
Â
- A constant in the Tribe lineup since starting her career, junior
Nyla Pollard ranks 37th in the country and leads the CAA with a 2.38 assist-to-turnover ratio. Pollard is tied for the team lead with 38 assists, while only having 16 miscues this season. Pollard, who will make her 55th career start today, is averaging 5.5 points per game and had a season-high 11 points at VCU earlier this season.
Â
- W&M head coach
Ed Swanson became the 69th head coach in Division I history to win his 500th career game against Hartford on Nov. 23. Now at 503 wins, Swanson ranks as the 33rd active head coach in the country in terms of wins. He is closing in on becoming just the third coach in W&M history to win 100 career games as he sits at 97 victories with the Tribe.
