William & Mary had two players picked to the roster for the Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game this season, tying for the most of any program nationally. Senior captain
Christie van de Kamp (Midlothian, Va.) was one of 34 field players nationally to earn a spot in the game, while her fellow captain
Annie Snead (Midlothian, Va.) was named an alternate. Typically, several alternates end up being elevated to the game roster, due to players declining for injuries or other obligations.
Van de Kamp and Snead have the Tribe moving up the standings as the 2019 season begins moving into its final stages, with W&M at 7-5 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Tribe has won six of its last seven after playing a tough opening schedule, and its current four-game winning streak ranks seventh nationally among active streaks. Van de Kamp leads the team with 14 points, on five goals and four assists, and also leads the NCAA with three penalty stroke goals, more than any other team has made total. Snead is tied for second on the team with 12 points, scoring three goals and six assists, and last week against Davidson surpassed Emma Clifton '15 for the most assists in school history with 26. Her 0.5 assists per game so far in 2019 ranks 26th among all players in Division I.
W&M's two picks are the most since 2005, when
Anna Davis '05 and
Shannon Karl '06 were both chosen for the Senior Game. Overall, the CAA had six players chosen, with W&M and Delaware each having two players selected while Drexel and Northeastern had one each. Seven players from Virginia universities earned selection, with the Tribe again leading the way alongside Old Dominion, while Virginia, VCU, and Richmond all had one selection.
The Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game will be held in conjuction with the 2019 NCAA Field Hockey Championships, at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C. The game will take place following the two national semifinal games, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22.
