- W&M won its fourth straight CAA opener, and third straight on the road as it topped Hofstra 60-55 on Friday night in Hempstead. Today, the Tribe looks to move to 2-0 for the third time in the last four years and just the fifth time in program history.
- Senior
Bianca Boggs is looking to become just the 13th player in school history to record three-straight 20-point games today. After accomplishing the feat seven times last year (eighth all-time), the senior has had four 20-point performances this season.
- This week, Boggs became the third Tribe player to claim a CAA weekly award as she was named the CAA Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 31. Boggs notched her second double-double of the season with a season-high 26 points and 10 rebounds as well as adding three blocks, three assists, and two steals. Both freshman
Eva Hodgson (Dec. 3) and
Emma Krause (Dec. 24) have both been named CAA Rookie of the Week this season.
- W&M has finished non-conference play the last five seasons over .500, including setting the school record for non-conference wins with 10 in the 2016-17 season. The Tribe has also won nine games twice, and also has won seven and six games during the current stretch.
- One key to the Tribe's success this season has been getting off to good starts. The Green and Gold has outscored opponents 196-172 in the first quarter this season. Furthermore, W&M is a perfect 8-0 when leading at the break.
- Since starting to come off of the bench redshirt sophomore
Harper Birdsong has been a huge spark. She has been in double-figures in five of the last six games and is averaging 12.4 points per game in those six contests. The George Washington transfer is now the second-leading scorer on the team, averaging 10.8 points per game. Her 44.1-percent from 3-point range leads the CAA and ranks No. 40 in the country.
- W&M has been clamping down on the defensive end of the floor of late as it has held four opponents to 50 points, or less. The Tribe has also limited seven of the last eight teams to fewer than 60 points. In Swanson's tenure the Tribe has posted a 20-2 record in games when its opponents have scored 50 points, or less. In this stretch, W&M has lowered its points against to 59.6, which ranks third in the CAA.
- Boggs was announced as one of 30 national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. The Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Boggs was the lone player from CAA women's basketball honored, and along with men's basketball player Paul Rowely, W&M was one of three DI schools with a candidate for the both the men's and women's Senior CLASS Award.
- Hodgson has started every game this season and the early returns on the rookie point guard have been good. The freshman has been in double-figures in five games, and is averaging 8.5 points per game (third most among CAA freshman), with 2.4 rebounds, and 3.3 helpers per contest. Hodgson scored a career-high 18 points in the CAA opener at Hofstra on Friday night.
- Boggs has been in double-figures in 10 of 12 games this season, and has accomplished that feat in 35 of her last 42 contests. Boggs was selected to the Preseason All-CAA First-Team after a breakout junior season. The senior captain leads the team with 16.6 points per night, and has added 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per night. She ranks in the top 10 in the nine of the CAA's 13 recorded individual stats. She is the lone player to rank in the top six in points, rebounds, and assists.
