The William & Mary women's track & field team resumes action for the indoor season this weekend, heading up to Lexington, Va., for the VMI Keydet Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Action at the Corps Physical Training Center begins at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. The meet can be followed through live results on TribeAthletics.com.
In addition to the Tribe, teams who are scheduled to compete across the two days of action include Marshall, Christopher Newport, UNC Asheville, High Point, Florida International, Army West Point, Virginia, Virginia Union, Norfolk State, VCU, Virginia State, St. Augustine, George Mason, Hampton, Lynchburg, Roanoke, James Madison, Washington and Lee, Richmond, UNCW, Gardner-Webb, and the host Keydets. In its only meet of the fall semester, W&M finished tied for fourth out of nine teams at the Navy Invitational and earning two ECAC qualifications.
Both ECAC qualifiers will be back in action, with senior
Grace Becker (Buckingham, Pa.) in the high jump and
Alexis Brender a Brandis (Williamsburg, Va.) in the long jump. Becker cleared a lifetime-best 1.72m (5-7.75) at Navy in December to set the facility record there. To earn her second track record in as many meets this weekend will take another best, with VMI's young facility boasting an enviable record of 1.76m (5-9.25) in the event. BABs, meanwhile, jumped 5.61m (18-5) in the long jump in December to punch her ticket, the first of hopefully several this season. She's also entered in the 60m hurdles and the triple jump, where she's the school record-holder outdoors. She'll be joined in each of her events by senior
Bri Miller (Midlothian, Va.), reigning CAA Champion in the triple jump and school record-holder in the long jump. Also in the field events,
Lauren Graves (Fredericksburg, Va.) jumped an indoor-best 3.45m (11-3.75) in the pole vault to open the year at Navy, and will be back in action this weekend.
On the track, highlights include redshirt-sophomore
Victoria Gersch (Mercer Island, Wash.), who is entered in both the 60m dash and the 400m as well as the 4x400m relay. Gersch is the team's top sprinter, holding the school record in the 200m outdoors, and has a best of 7.90 in the 60m dash as she pursues the record of 7.76 in that event. She opened the winter with a 58.02 in the 400m at Navy. Junior
Priya Sidhu (Issaquah, Wash.) is also in the 60m, after opening the year at 8.12 last month. In the 500m dash, classmates
Susanna Maisto (Silver Spring, Md.) and
Gabby Runge (Midlothian, Va.) are both aiming for the ECAC mark of 1:16.04, and both are also entered in the 4x400m along with Gersch and sophomore
Jadyn Currie (Virginia Beach, Va.). The longer distances include junior
Lauren Finikiotis (Gibsonia, Pa.) in the 1,000m run on Friday night, and junior transfer
Liv Paxton (Rock Hill, S.C.) in the mile on Saturday morning. Senior
Lindsay Schott (Portola Valley, Calif.) is entered in the 800m, where her 2:13.97 PB is just off of ECAC pace, and junior
Julia Montgomery (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) begins her training for the 3,000m steeplechase with a race in the flat 3,000m on Saturday evening.
