WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary Athletics Department will not play the women's lacrosse program's final game of the season against Elon, scheduled for Saturday, April 28. The game is being canceled due to a confirmed case of the mumps affecting the team and in order to avoid potentially exposing additional student-athletes to the virus.
The game, per NCAA rules, has been declared a no contest. Because the outcome of the game would not have affected the final seeding for the CAA Championship, the conference will not exercise its option to declare a forfeit.
The Athletics Department is working closely with the university and local health officials regarding best practices for treatment and limiting exposure. The department is in constant communication with the Colonial Athletic Association office and its league members and any further scheduling disruptions will be shared.
The university has taken all appropriate and recommended steps, including sharing this information with the campus community.
