After opening the spring season with a win at the Tribe Invitational on Friday, William & Mary grad student
Tom Parker (Otford, Kent, England) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Field Athlete of the Week. This is the first weekly award of Parker's short career, and the first of the season for the Tribe men's track & field team, which won all seven field awards (and 10 of 14 total) given out last spring.
Parker, who earned All-East honors indoors in the weight throw this season, opened his spring by throwing 62.26m (204-3), easily qualifying for the IC4A Championships. He had five throws over 59.78m in his series and three over 60m including his best, which was the longest throw ever at W&M in the month of March. Parker's winning throw was the 10th best single effort in school history, and ranks him third all-time among Tribe Athletes behind former CAA Champions
Brian Waterfield '15 M.Acc. '16 and
Michael Howell '93. He currently ranks 12th in the NCAA early in the spring season, as well as third among U.K. athletes worldwide
Parker and his Tribe teammates are back in action this Saturday, March 24, as they host George Mason, Navy, and Buffalo in the first Dan Stimson Memorial Quad Meet. The hammer throw kicks things off at 10 a.m. at the Stimson Throwing Events Area.
