WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary men's tennis team returns home for a pair of matches this weekend. The Green and Gold hosts its second Colonial Athletic Association opponent of the year in James Madison on Saturday, March 17, at 1 p.m., before W&M welcomes Sun Belt foe Troy to Williamsburg on Sunday, March 18, at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at the McCormack-Naglesen Tennis Center.

Scouting the Tribe
The Tribe enters the weekend at 7-6 on the season after dropping all three matches of its trip to the Sunshine State. The Green and Gold fell in close tilts with FAU, 5-2, and FGCU, 4-3, before closing out the trip with a 5-0 setback to ACC foe Miami on March 11. Senior
Lars de Boer highlighted the Tribe effort going 2-0 in singles play at No. 5 with victories over FAU and FGCU. Freshman
Finbar Talcott notched the other Tribe victory at No. 4 singles against the Owls, while senior Alec Miler and freshman
Sebastian Quiros posted wins at No. 1 and No. 6 against the Eagles. Freshman
Louis Newman leads the Tribe with a 14-9 singles record, while senior
Christian Cargill and Talcott both own 13 singles wins. Talcott and Miller are a team-best 8-4 in dual-match play. In doubles, Miller and Cargill lead the way with 11 wins apiece. As a team, Newman and Cargill are 10-5, including a 5-3 mark at No. 2. Cargill currently ranks ninth in school history with 79 career doubles wins and is just two away from No. 8. Included in the Tribe's haul of wins this season was a 4-3 upset of then-No. 25-ranked and current No. 27 South Carolina in Williamsburg on Feb. 9. The Tribe is 1-0 in CAA play with a victory over Elon, 4-3, on Jan. 26 in Williamsburg.
Scouting James Madison
The Dukes are 12-2 on the year and 2-0 in CAA play after winning all five matches on its Spring Break trip to Florida. JMU downed Coastal Carolina (5-2), Duquesne (4-3), Scared Heart (6-0), Norfolk State (4-0) and Wayne State (6-1) in Orlando. The Dukes' lone losses on the year have been at Virginia Tech (7-0) and against Penn State (6-1) in Richmond. Both teams are currently in the national top 50. JMU downed both Delaware and Hofstra on the road in CAA play and has a common opponent with W&M in Richmond. Both teams downed the Spiders with the Dukes posting a 4-3 win and W&M toppping UR, 5-2. Paul Mendoza holds down the top singles post for the Duke, sporting a 15-7 overall record and a 10-3 ledger at No. 1. Damon Roberts and Alvaro Arce have played the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions for the Dukes with dual-match records of 10-4 and 9-3, respectively. In doubles, Mendoza and Theophile Lanthiez are 16-6 for the Dukes, including a 10-3 mark at the No. 1 spot.
Series History: W&M vs. James Madison
W&M leads the all-time series with the Dukes at 31-15. The Tribe has won 22 of the last 23 meetings in the series, including each of the last five. W&M is 26-7 against JMU in Williamsburg, including a 5-2 win in 2016. The Dukes last victory in the series came in Williamsburg during the 2012 season by a 4-1 score.
Scouting Troy
Troy has won six of its last eight matches, including the three most recent contests of its trip to South Carolina. The Trojans evened their season ledger at 8-8 following wins over USC Upstate (4-1). UNCG (4-0) and Presbyterian (4-0). Troy faces Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach on Friday, before heading to Williamsburg on Sunday. Included in its eight losses are setbacks to CAA foes Elon (4-3) and UNCW (4-2). They won three of its four matches on a trip to Texas to start March with triumphs over UT Rio Grande Valley (4-1), DePaul (4-0) and Sun Belt foe UT Arlington (4-2). Andy Lau and Pelayo Antuna lead Troy with 11 and 10 singles wins, respectively. Antuna is 4-2 at No. 2 singles, while Lau has played at the top three spots. Along with Lau, Mustapha Belcora and Oskar Michalek have played at the top singles position for the Trojans. Belcora and Michalek own four doubles wins at the No. 1 position.
Series History: W&M vs. Troy
The Tribe and Trojans will meet for just the second time on Sunday. W&M downed Troy, 4-1, in 2013 during the Blue Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala.
