Scouting the Tribe
The Green and Gold earned the program's highest national ranking in a decade on Tuesday, coming in at No. 45 in the first computerized ITA Top-50 of the season. It was the highest placement in the national standing since Feb. 26, 2008 when the Tribe was No. 38. W&M got back on the winning track in the final match of its Midwest swing, upending a 2017 NCAA Tournament participant in Valparaiso, 5-2, on Feb. 18. The Tribe dropped the first match of it swing at No. 31 Western Michigan and currently sits at 6-2 on the season. Senior Alec Miller led the way during its trip, going 2-0. After posting the lone point at WMU, he moved up to the top spot and ran his win streak to three matches with a come-from-behind three-set victory. He leads the Tribe with a 6-1 dual-match mark and is a perfect 2-0 in his career at No. 1. Senior Christian Cargill (No. 2) and the freshman trio of Louis Newman (No. 4), Finbar Talcott (No. 5) and Sebastian Quiros (No. 6) posted wins in the Valpo triumph. Newman recorded his team-leading 13th singles win, while Talcott and Quiros upped their dual-match ledgers to 5-2. Like Miller, Quiros notched a come-from-behind three-set win for his eighth singles triumph. The Tribe opened the season 5-0 for the first time since 1950. Included in its opening spurt was the program's highest nationally-ranked win since 2007. W&M upended then-No. 25 and current No. 27-ranked South Carolina behind singles wins from Cargill (No. 1), Newman (No. 4), Talcott (No. 5) and Quiros (No. 6). Following the win over the Gamecocks, Cargill earned his second-straight CAA Player of the Week honor thanks to a nationally-ranked win of his own at the top spot.

Scouting Yale
The Bulldogs are 4-4 following a 2-1 performance to finish fifth at the ECAC Indoor Championship last week. After dropping its opener at the event to Princeton, Yale topped Monmouth, 4-0, and Brown, 4-2. The Bulldogs started the season with wins over Santa Clara, 4-2, and Army, 4-0, before dropping matches to Florida Atlantic, 4-2, Ohio State, 4-0, and Tulsa, 4-2, with the latter two coming at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Columbus. Sophomore Andrew Heller holds down the top singles post. He is 11-7 on the year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Northeast Region Championship during the fall. Seniors Fedor Andrienko and Stefan Doehler comprise the Bulldogs top doubles team that is 13-5 on the year and 3-2 in dual-match play. Doehler leads Yale with 13 singles wins on the year, while Andrienko is a team-best 6-1 in dual-match play at No. 5 and No. 6.
