Nathan Knight Named Lou Henson National Player of the Week

BOSTON, Mass. - William & Mary men's basketball junior Nathan Knight was named the CollegeInsider.com Lou Henson National Player of the Week on Monday. Knight averaged 26.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last week, shooting 65.6 percent from the field (21-of-32) and was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line. He scored the game-winner with 1.7 seconds remaining in the Tribe's thrilling 87-85 win over Saint Joseph's on Saturday.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I mid-major player. It is named in honor Lou Henson who coached for 41 years and retired sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four. The weekly honor recognized the top player among the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast and Western Athletic.

Knight started the week by scoring a career-high 32 points on 13-of-20 shooting, including a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line, against defending Big South Champion Radford. He just missed a double-double with nine rebounds and converted four 3-point plays against the Highlanders. On Saturday, Knight was limited to 21 minutes due to foul trouble, but scored a team-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. He banked in the game-winning, left-handed hook shot with 1.7 seconds remaining to cap the Tribe's 20-point second-half comeback victory over the Hawks, 87-85.

Knight ranks among the top 15 in the CAA in nine different categories. He is third in the league in scoring (19.3) and field goal percentage (.603) and ninth in rebounding (6.5). Knight ranks 44th nationally in field goal percentage, 56th in total field goals made and 81st in scoring.

Last season, Knight was a Lou Henson All-American as a finalist for the national award. Earlier this season, he was named to the preseason watch list for the Lou Henson Award and was also selected to the watch list for the 2019 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
