WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary men's basketball team hosts one of hte favorites in the Atlantic 10 as it welcomes Saint Joseph's to Kaplan Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks travel to Williamsburg for the first time as the Tribe plays its second A-10 foe of the season and hosts its first of two over the next two weeks. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
Tribe Athletics will host a food drive as part of Saturday's match-up with Saint Joseph's. Fans can purchase a discounted $10 mezzanine ticket with a donation of a canned good.
The game will be broadcast online at Tribe Athletics TV via Stretch Internet. Tribe fans can catch the men's basketball action over the Tribe Radio Network with Jay Colley and Charlie Woollum on the call. The Tide 92.3 FM and 107.9 Bach FM are the flagship stations of the Tribe Radio Network and the audio is also available over the Web at TribeAthletics.com.

W&M News and Notes
- Saint Joseph's will be the second of three Atlantic 10 Conference opponents for the Tribe this season, which is a first in program history. W&M fell at Duquesne, 84-70, on Nov. 10 and hosts George Mason on Dec. 1. It marks the 10th-straight season and 21st year in the last 24 that W&M has played an A-10 opponent. The Tribe faces multiple A-10 teams in the same season for the fourth time overall and first since 1982-83. Three of W&M's six wins against the A-10 have come under head coach
Tony Shaver.
- With a trio of upperclassmen starters out against Radford (
Matt Milon,
Justin Pierce and
Paul Rowley), the Tribe started three freshmen –
Chase Audige,
Quinn Blair and
L.J. Owens – for the first time under head coach
Tony Shaver . Overall it was the Tribe's first time with three rookie starters in 29 years. The last trio of freshmen to start were Brendan Connor, Thomas Roberts and Derrick Peters at George Mason on Feb. 15, 1990. The Tribe started three freshmen on seven times in 1989-90 with Todd Cauthorn mixing in as the third rookie starter at times.
- The Tribe has relied heavily on its freshman class to provide important minutes. With three starters missing time due to injuries, the freshman class has started six total games among the Tribe's 25 starts this season (24 percent). W&M's rookie class has accounted for 95 minutes per game in 2018 and has produced averages of 23.6 points, 11.2 rebounds and 7.4 assists through the first five contests. The group has accounted for 31 percent of W&M's scoring, 33.9 of its rebounds and 45.7 percent of its assists.
- According to KenPom.com, the Tribe is the 17th least experienced team in the country. W&M's roster averaged just 0.91 years of experience per player.
- As the lone upperclassmen available for the Tribe on Nov. 20, junior
Nathan Knight turned in a strong outing against Radford. The 6-10 center produced a career-high 32 points on 13-of-20 shooting and a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line to go with a game-high nine rebounds. He ranks among the CAA's top 12 in eight different categories, including third in scoring (19.0) and sixth in rebounding (7.0).
- The Tribe has been one of the top teams in the country in terms of sharing the basketball under head coach
Tony Shaver. In nine of his 15 seasons, W&M ranked among the top 50 according to KenPom.com in terms of assist percentage. This season, the Tribe is 44th, assisting on 60 percent of its made field goals. The Green and Gold is third in the CAA and 68th nationally at 16.2 assists per game in 2018. Each of the last two seasons, W&M ranked seventh nationally in assists per game at 17.5 in 2016-17 and 17.7 in 2017-18.
- Junior
Justin Pierce was dominant to start the 2018-19 season before missing the last two games due to injury. He posted two double-doubles in three games, including a near triple-double performance at UIC of 25 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high seven assists. He is averaging 22.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game and ranks second in the CAA lead and 33rd nationally (as of Nov. 22) in double-doubles.
- Freshman
Thornton Scott dished out eight assists against Radford. It marked the most assists for a Tribe player this season and the most for a W&M rookie in 19 years. It was the highest assist total for a Tribe freshman since Sherman Rivers had nine in 1999 against Wofford. Scott ranks 13th in the CAA at 2.8 assists per game.
- Junior
Matt Milon knocked down eight 3-pointers in the posting a career-high 30 points at UIC. His eight triples were the most in the CAA this season, eighth nationally (as of Nov. 22) and third in W&M history. He ranks second in the CAA and 36th nationally in 3-pointers made per game (3.5).
- Freshman
L.J. Owens became the first Tribe player since 2015 to the named CAA Rookie of the Week on Nov. 12. His scoring average of 10.6 points per game ranks second among league rookies and ranks 24th overall in the CAA. He is also ninth in the league in free throw percentage (.846) and 12th in 3-point shooting (.421).
- Knight ranks 25th nationally among active NCAA D1 players in field goal percentage (.578). This season, he is sixth in the CAA and 75th nationally at 59 percent shooting. He ranks third in the CAA in field gaols made and 75th nationally with 36.
- W&M was picked fourth in the preseason CAA poll released in October by vote of the league's coaches, SIDs and media. Northeastern was the preseason CAA favorite followed by Charleston and Hofstra. The Tribe has finished inside the top four in the league each of the last five seasons, producing double-digit CAA wins.
- After earning All-CAA honors last season, Knight and Pierce were voted among the top 10 players in the league as Preseason All-CAA Second Team picks in October. It marks the sixth-straight year that W&M had two Preseason All-CAA picks. Knight and Pierce concluded 2018 on the CAA's second and third teams, respectively.
- Knight was named one of 21 players nationally to the Watch List for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The 6-10 center was selected to the NBC Sports Preseason Mid-Major All-America Second Team in September.
- Second-year Law student
Paul Rowley and Milon both rank among the active NCAA Division I leaders in career 3-point percentage. Rowley is eighth on the list at 45.1 percent (88-of-195) from long range, while Milon comes in 10th at 44.7 percent (130-of-291).
