The Tribe won the doubles point for the fourth-straight match with victories at the top two positions. Cargill and Niquet made quick work of ECU's duo of Vlad Anghel and Fredric Lehfeldt, 6-2, at No. 2 to give W&M the early lead. The Tribe tandem improved to 10-6 overall and 2-0 at the second spot, while the Pirates team fell to 14-4.
After ECU evened doubles with a win at No. 3, the Green and Gold claimed the initial point of the match with a triumph at the top spot. Senior
Addison Appleby and sophomore
Tristan Bautil won the final three games in upending Freddie McGeehan and James Ling, 6-4, to secure the point. The Tribe duo won its third straight, upping its mark to 3-1 at No. 1 and 7-5 overall.
Niquet quickly increased the Tribe's lead to 2-0 with his 70th career win. The Tribe senior rolled past Kasey Countee, 6-0, 6-3, for his ninth-straight victory. He pushed his team-leading ledger to 15-8, including a 12-2 mark in dual-match play.
Like his doubles partner, Cargill extended his personal singles winning streak with a victory at the second slot. He topped Vlad Anghel, 6-2, 6-2, for his third victory in a row. Cargill tallied his 11th triumph of the season and is 9-5 at No. 2.
de Boer clinched the Green and Gold's third-straight victory with a win at No. 6. He won the final two games of the opening set and then all six in the second in bouncing Will Bissett, 7-5, 6-0. de Boer improved to 3-1 at the six singles post with his eighth overall triumph of the year.
At No. 4, Miller won the opening set in a tiebreaker and carried over the momentum to a dominating second-set win. Trailing Fredric Lehfeldt, 3-1, in the first-set tiebreaker, the Tribe junior won six straight points to pull out the win, 7-6 (3), and did not let up in the second, sweeping his ECU counterpart, 6-0. He upped his season ledger to 10-9 with his eighth dual-match win.
Talcott rounded out the Tribe victory with his fifth win in his last seven matches at No. 1. After winning the first set, 6-4, Talcott led Freddie McGeehan, 6-5, in the second, when the ECU junior retired due to injury. The Tribe senior improved to 12-9 overall and 8-6 at the top singles position.
The Tribe returns to action on Saturday, April 8, as part of a men's and women's tennis doubleheader at the
Millie West Tennis Facility. The men welcome Middle Tennessee to Williamsburg with the women facing Old Dominion at the same time. The matches will be played concurrent to one another, beginning at 2 p.m.
