WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary men's tennis team continues its six-match homestand with a pair of contests this weekend. The Tribe welcomes East Carolina to Williamsburg on Friday, April 7, at 3 p.m., at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center, before hosting Middle Tennessee on Saturday, April 8, at 2 p.m., at the
Millie West Tennis Facility. Saturday's match-up will be part of a men's and women's doubleheader with both matches playing concurrently at the
Millie West Tennis Facility. The women host Old Dominion at the same time as the men's match with the Blue Raiders.
Scouting the Tribe
The Tribe is riding a two-match winning streak into the weekend and has evened its season ledger at 8-8. The Green and Gold started its six-match regular-season ending homestand with wins over Xavier, 6-1, on March 18 and Howard, 7-0, on March 26. W&M won the doubles point in each of the last three matches with a trio of teams racking up 2-0 ledgers. Senior

Tristan Bautil won their last two matches at the top doubles spot and are 6-5 overall. The tandem of senior

Christian Cargill at the No. 2 slot and the junior pair of
Lars de Boer and
Ryan Newman at No. 3 are both 2-0 over the last three matches in doubles competition. In singles, Cargill and Bautil are 2-0 during the Tribe's recent win streak. Bautil clinched the Green and Gold's win over Xavier with his first career dual-match victory. Cargill sits at 8-5 at No. 2 singles and owns 10 wins overall. Senior
Damon Niquet is riding an eight-match winning streak and leads the Tribe at 14-8 overall and 11-2 in dual-match competition. Talcott holds down the top spot for the Green and Gold. He is 11-9 overall with seven wins at No. 1.
Scouting East Carolina
East Carolina enters the match with the Tribe at 14-6 on the year, but is coming off three-straight losses. Last week, the Pirates dropped road matches at Winthrop, 4-1, and Charleston, 4-3. W&M and ECU have two common opponents in Navy and Winthrop. Both teams topped the Midshipmen by 6-1 scores, while the Tribe downed Winthrop, 6-1, compared to the Pirates' loss. As a team, East Carolina is 81-34 (.704) in dual-match singles play and 38-17 (.691) in doubles. Freddie McGeehan owns nine wins at the top singles position and 10 at the top doubles post. Vlad Anghel, Ronny Georgi and Fredric Lehfeldt each lead ECU with 13 dual-match wins, playing at the top four singles spots. Anghel and Lehfeldt are an impressive 14-3 at No. 2 doubles, while McGeehan has recently teamed with James Ling to go 4-4 at No. 1.
Series History: W&M vs. East Carolina
The Tribe leads the all-time series at 21-4 and has won 12 straight dating back to 1995. W&M is 11-2 against the Pirates in Williamsburg and the last three meetings have been played in the Colonial Capital. The last time the teams squared off, the Tribe picked up a 6-1 win in January of 2007.
Scouting Middle Tennessee
The Blue Raiders enter the week winners in four of their last five matches. Middle Tennessee is 9-12 on the year following a 2-1 mark at the MT Shootout last weekend. After a loss to No. 47 South Alabama, 4-0, to open the event, the Blue Raiders downed Valparaiso, 4-2, and UAB, 4-1. Prior to the MT Shootout, Middle Tennessee won the final two matches of C-USA pod at ODU, topping Charlotte, 6-1, and Florida Atlantic, 4-3. MT travels to VCU on Friday before facing W&M on Saturday. The Tribe and Blue Raiders have three common opponents in Penn, George Washington and Valparaiso. W&M was 1-2 against group compared to Middle Tennessee's 2-1 record. Both teams topped George Washington and lost to Penn, while the difference was the Blue Raiders' 4-2 win over Valparaiso. Gonzalo Morell and Tom Moonen have split time at the top two singles positions, winning eight dual matches apiece. Gian Issa is a team-best 9-6 in duals at the bottom three singles spots, and last week, Luis Morillo Diaz was named the C-USA Athlete of the Week for his performance at the MT Shootout
. Moonen and Morell are the Blue Raiders top doubles team at 12-6 in dual-match play, including six-straight wins at No. 1.
Series History: W&M vs. Middle Tennessee
W&M and Middle Tennessee will square off for the first time since 2009. Saturday marks the Blue Raiders first trip to Williamsburg. The teams met four times between 2004 and 2009, including three times in the Blue Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala. The other meeting was in the Rice Invitational in 2007. W&M won the first three meetings with the Blue Raiders by narrow 4-2 and 4-3 scores in 2004 and 2007. The teams met twice in 2007 at both events. Middle Tennessee won the last meeting between the teams, 4-1, in the 2009 Blue Gray Classic.
