Women's Basketball Set for CAA Quarterfinal Versus No. 5 Delaware

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary women's basketball kicks off postseason play as they are set for a CAA Quarterfinal against the No. 5-seeded Delaware Blue Hens on Thursday, March 9. Tip time from the JMU Convocation Center is set for 2:30 p.m.

Opening Tip
Fresh off the best regular season in the school history, the William & Mary women's basketball team opens up Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Play in the CAA Quarterfinals as the No. 4 seed. W&M will square off with the No. 5-seeded Delaware Blue Hens on Thursday, March 9. The Green and Gold and Delaware meet for the 30th time in series history in Thursday's matinee.
 
Last Time Out
The William & Mary women's basketball team capped off the best regular season in school history with a 74-65 victory over Drexel closing the regular season at Kaplan Arena on March 1.  Senior Alexandra Masaquel became the 18th player in school history to record her 1,000th career point as she finished with a double-double of a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, leading four in double-figures. Junior Abby Rendle just missed a double-double as she finished with 17 points, (7-of-7 from the field) eight rebounds, and five blocks. Senior Latrice Hunter continued her recent hot streak as she added 15 points and four dimes, while classmate Marlena Tremba added 10 points, six rebounds and six helpers. The 19th victory of the season tied the Tribe's most regular season victories in school history.
 
Scouting the Blue Hens
Delaware tied with William & Mary for the fourth spot in the league, but earned the five seed because of tiebreakers. The Blue Hens won their last two regular season games and enter postseason play with a 16-13 mark. UD averages 57.6 points per game, while the allow 58 points a night. Nicole Enabosi leads the team with 13.9 points per game. Erika Brown is the only other player in double-figures with 12.3 points a night. On the glass, the Blue Hens grab 36.1 rebounds a night. Enabosi leads the charge averaging a double-double at 10.1 rebounds a night. Tina Martin is in her 21st season at Delaware. She has posted a 408-237 mark with the Blue Hens.
 
Series History
The Green and Gold and Delaware meet for the 30th time in series history in Thursday's matinee. However, this will be the first meeting between the two schools in the CAA Tournament. Delaware leads the all-time series by a 22-7 mark, but the team's split the two regular season meeting winning on the other's home floor. Senior Alexandra Masaquel led the Tribe in the two games, averaging 11.5 points in the two games. Classmate Marlena Tremba was also in double-figures with 10.5 points. Junior Abby Rendle and sophomore Bianca Boggs were just off of the pace with 9.5 points in the two contests.
 
The Road Ahead
The winner of Thursday's game advances to the CAA Semifinals on Friday, March 10 to face the winner of No. 1-seeded Elon or No. 8-seeded Towson and No.-9 seeded Hofstra. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. The two semifinal winners will meet in the CAA Championship on Saturday, March 11 at 7 p.m.
 
Connect Four
The William & Mary women's basketball team had four players earn seven postseason CAA Awards announced in a live show on the league's social media sites. Seniors Alexandra Masaquel and Marlena Tremba highlighted the team's awards by each being named to the league's second-team. Masaquel and junior Abby Rendle were tabbed to the CAA All-Defensive team. Tremba, Masaquel and junior Jenna Green rounded out the Tribe's awards as all three were named to the all-academic squad.
