Prewitt Can Do it
- Senior
Omar Prewitt put his versatile skills on display in the CAA Quarterfinal win over Elon. He tallied his fourth double-double of the season and seventh of his career with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Prewitt scored 11 of the Tribe's first 16 points and tied his career-high with 13 rebounds. The 13 boards were also the second-most in CAA Tournament game for a Tribe player behind Tim Trout's 15 against American in the 1988 tournament.
- Prewitt is one of the most versatile players in the country. He is one of only three active Division I players nationally with career totals of 1500 points, 600 rebounds, 300 assists and 100 steals. Prewitt has 1,807 points, 637 rebounds, 317 assists and 118 steals over his four-year career. Only South Carolina's Sindarius Thornwell (1782, 638, 371, 186) and Wisconsin's Nigel Hayes (1746, 742, 305, 131) can lay claim to those career milestones.
- Recently, Prewitt has been at his best. Over his last 10 games, he is averaging 18.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per contest. During that stretch, he turned in performances of 28 points against UNCW on Jan. 28 and a season-high 30 points vs. Charleston on Feb. 11. Prewitt dished out a career-high eight assists on Jan. 26 vs. Delaware.
- Prewitt is currently the only player in the CAA to rank among the top 12 in the league in points, rebounds and assists per game. He is ninth in the league at 15.2 points and assists (3.2) per game, while coming in 11th in rebounding (6.1). In CAA play, he is among the top 10 in all three categories.
- Prewitt is sixth in W&M history at 1,807 career points, which is the top active number in the CAA and 22nd nationally among current Division I players. He is sixth on the Tribe's career list and five away passing Keith Cieplicki (1982-85) to moved into the top five.
- The ability to fill the stat sheet is nothing new to Prewitt, who ranks among the Tribe's career leaders in a number of categories. Prewitt also ranks 10th in W&M annals in blocked shots (78), 11th in assists (317), 14th in steals (118) and 14th in rebounding (637).
- Prewitt became only the second player in W&M history, along with John Lowenhaupt (1975-78), to tally 1,500 points, 600 rebounds and 300 assists over his career.

Finishing Strong
- In its CAA semifinal win over Elon, the Tribe trailed the Phoenix, 60-54 with 4:54 remaining, before using a 17-3 run to surge in front. W&M hit 4-of-6 from the field, 3-of-5 from 3-point range and a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line over the final five minutes. Senior
Daniel Dixon scored nine of the Tribe's 17 points over the final 4:54, including a lay-up with 1:14 remaining that gave W&M the lead for good.
- After a Steven Santa Ana 3-pointer with 6:06 remaining that gave Elon a 59-54 lead, the Tribe held the Phoenix without a field goal for over six minutes. Elon's final field goal came on a 3-pointer from Dmitri Thompson with two seconds remaining. W&M outscored Elon 17-7 during that stretch.
- Saturday marked the Tribe's first victory in 2016-17 when it trailed with five minutes remaining. W&M had lost its previous 10 games this season when trailing with five minutes remaining. The last Tribe win prior to Saturday when trailing with five minutes to go was at Elon on Feb. 25, 2016.
- An eerily similar play occurred in the quarterfinal from the Jan. 21 meeting at Elon where the eventual winner came up with a loose ball and hit what proved to be a back-breaking 3-pointer. On Saturday, Dixon was stripped on a drive to the basket by Dainan Swoope. The ball bounded toward the top of the key, and it was junior
Jack Whitman who came with the loose ball. He immediate found
Omar Prewitt, and the senior drilled a 3-pointer with 33 seconds remaining to extend a one-point W&M lead, 64-63, to a four-point margin, 67-63. On Jan. 21 in Elon with the Phoenix leading 61-60, W&M made what looked like a defensive stop when a pass was knocked away and end up in the lane. Dmitri Thompson dove on the ball and found Swoope for a left wing 3-pointer to push Elon's lead to 64-60. The Phoenix didn't look back on the way to a 71-62 win.
