WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary baseball team returns to action as they head to Cary, N.C. for the Irish Classic this weekend. W&M will play Monmouth on Friday, March 3 at 2 p.m., Dayton Saturday, March 4 at 1 p.m., before concluding with Rhode Island on Sunday, March 5 at 11:45 a.m.

Scouting the Hawks
Monmouth looks to put some wins together as they play the Tribe on Friday afternoon. The Hawks have posted a 1-6 record during its first pair of weekend series at Florida Atlantic and Furman. As a team, MU is batting .235 so far this year. The Hawks have two players in Sahine Hughes (.375) and Tom Jakubowski (.318) hitting over .300. Hughes paces the team with nine hits and five runs, while also posting a home run. Jakubowski has tallied seven hits, three runs, two RBI and a double. The Hawks hold a 4.67 ERA through seven games. Friday's starter Jordan McCrum has logged 6.0 innings, allowed five earned runs on 11 hits and posted two strikeouts. Dean Ehehalt is in his 24th season at Monmouth.

Scouting the Flyers
Dayton looks to make it two in a row as they head to the Irish Classic weekend. The Flyers bring a 2-4 mark into the weekend and play UMass Lowell on Friday. The Flyers edged Georgetown, 8-7 in their previous outing (Feb. 26). At the plate, the Flyers are batting .297 as a team. Connor Echols leads the team with an exceptional .467 batting average. Echols also leads the team in hits (14), ties for first in doubles (3) and ties second in RBI (6). Dayton has posted a 9.77 ERAA through the first six games. Saturday's starter Jordan Cox has tossed six innings so far, recording four strikeouts and allowing six runs on five hits. Tony Vittorio is in his 18
th season at Dayton. He owns a 445-513-1 record during his tenure.

Scouting the Rams
Rhode Island has begun 2017 with a roller coaster start at 3-4 heading into the weekend. The Rams went 1-2 in their weekend opener at the Lake Area Classic, but claimed a pair of wins against Houston Baptist during a four-game series (Feb. 24-26). URI will play N.C. State, Monmouth, and Notre Dame, before meeting W&M As a team, the Rams are hitting .278. Chris Hess highlights the lineup with a .393 batting average, adding 11 hits, five runs, two triples and a home run. Sonny Ulliana is hitting .333 in 24 at bats to go along with eight hits and five RBI. Brett McManus is also batting an outstanding .429 in limited at bats, including six hits and three RBI. Rhode Island sports a 5.16 ERA through seven games. Jake Walker will make his second start of the season on Sunday. In a 3.2 inning sample, Walker has surrendered seven runs on seven hits and fanned one batter. Raphael Cerrato is in his third season at his alma mater. He owns a 60-56-1 mark at URI.

Series History vs. Monmouth
William & Mary and Monmouth meet for the first time in series history this weekend in Cary, N.C. The Hawks are one of three teams on this year's schedule the Tribe has never played before.

Series History vs. Dayton
Like Friday's game, the clash against Dayton will be the first baseball meeting between the two programs. The final team, W&M meets for the first time this season is Yale on for games on March 11 and 12.

Series History vs. Rhode Island
W&M and Rhode Island meet for the ninth time in series history on Sunday, before the Rams make the trek to Williamsburg for a weekend series in two weeks. The series is deadlocked at 4-4. The last meeting between the two teams came in 2012, when the Tribe took a three-game set two games to one. This will be the first meeting outside of the confines of Plumeri Park.

The Tribe closes out its six game swing away from Williamsburg as they head to Maryland on Tuesday, March 7. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. W&M returns to Williamsburg to face in-state rival Virginia Tech at Plumeri Park on Wednesday, March 8. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
