Women's Basketball Set for Super Sunday Showdown at Hofstra

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's basketball team looks to make it two wins in a row as they complete a weekend road trip at Hofstra on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3. Tip time between the Tribe and Pride is set for 2 p.m.

The Tribe continues a stretch of three games in five days as they close the set with a make-up game with the Pride on Tuesday, Feb. 7. The Green and Gold and Hofstra meet for the 37th time in series history
 
Last Time Out
Senior Marlena Tremba scored a team-high 17 points as the William & Mary women's basketball team cruised to a 68-54 wire-to-wire road victory at Northeastern. Tremba scored her 17 points on 6-of-13 from the field and 5-of-10 from behind the arc. The senior added five assists, two rebounds, and a steal. Classmate Alexandra Masaquel added her sixth double-double of the season and second in a row with 10 points, 12 rebounds, a block, and a steal. Senior Latrice Hunter, junior Abby Rendle, and sophomore Bianca Boggs each finished with eight points apiece. The Tribe got back to sharing the basketball and had 19 assists on 27 made baskets. Green, Boggs, and Tremba each had five helpers to pace the Green and Gold.
 
Scouting the Pride
Hofstra enters the home and home series looking to snap a losing streak. The Pride has lost six in a row and are 8-12, 1-8 in league action. For the year, Hofstra is averaging 61.8 points per game. Ashuane Durant leads the Pride with 15.6 points per game. Krystal Luciano is the only other player in double-figures with 10.5 points a night. The Pride is strong on the glass, averaging 41.3 rebounds a night. Durant leads the way averaging a double-double with 11.5 rebounds. a night. Sandra Dongmo is second on the squad with 6.1 rebounds. Krista Kilburn-Stevesky is in her 11th season as the head coach of Hofstra. She has posted a 186-151 mark during her time on the Island.
 
Series History
The Green and Gold and Hofstra meet for the 37th time in series history. Today will be the first meeting of the series, because snow moved the first game in Williamsburg back on Jan. 8. The regular season series closes in just over 48 hours as the teams head to Williamsburg for the make-up on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Hofstra leads the all-timer series 29-9-1, including sweeping the series last year. Senior Alexandra Masaquel led the Tribe a season ago, averaging 17.5 points 8.5 rebounds. Junior Abby Rendle scored 16 points and added seven rebounds in the lone game she played in the series.
 
The Road Ahead
W&M concludes the hone and home series with the Pride on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Tipoff from Kaplan Arena is set for 7 p.m. The Tribe will then conclude its stretch of three of four on the road as they travel to Drexel for a game on Friday, Feb. 10. That game will also tipoff at 7 p.m.
 
Super Sunday
The Green and Gold has played on 24-consecutive Super Bowl Sunday's, including this afternoon's contest, dating back to Sunday, Jan. 31, 1993. The Tribe has posted a 7-16 record on games played on Super Bowl Sunday. Under Coach Swanson and company, the Tribe is 2-1 on Super Bowl Sunday with victories over the College of Charleston (81-76) in 2014 and Northeastern (72-66 2OT) in 2015.
 
Winning the Battle of the Boards
A focus for the coaching staff all season, the glass has been a telling statistic for the Tribe. W&M has won or tied the battle of the boards nine times this season, all ending victories. When the Tribe is outrebounded, they have posted just a 5-6 mark.
