News and Notes
- W&M has won the last three games with Delaware, but the Blue Hens lead the all-time series at 24-11. The Tribe is averaging 88.7 points per game during its three-game win streak over Delaware. Earlier this season, W&M shot 56.9 percent from the field in downing UD, 82-58, in Williamsburg. Last season, the Tribe tied a then-school record with 16 3-pointers in a 94-79 win in Newark.
- The Tribe has scored 80 or more points in seven of its last eight games and 14 contests overall in 2016-17. W&M is on pace to set a school record for scoring average at 81.5 per game, which ranks 25th nationally. The Tribe is averaging 87.8 per contest over the last eight.
- The Green and Gold has connected on 50 percent or better from the field in nine of its last 14 games. The Tribe leads the CAA and ranks 15th nationally in field goal percentage (48.9). They are one of only three schools along with Gonzaga and Belmont to rank among the top 30 nationally in field goal percentage each of the last five years.
- W&M dished out 20 or more assists for the ninth time this season in the win over Charleston. The Tribe has accomplished the feat in five of the last eight games and ranks 11th nationally at 17.5 assists per game.
- Seniors
Daniel Dixon and
Omar Prewitt became the winningest class in W&M history, since freshmen became eligible to compete in 1972, with the victory over Charleston on Saturday. They have 74 career wins and also own the most league wins (41) of any current CAA class.
Scouting Delaware
- Delaware, who is under the direction of first-year head coach and former Notre Dame assistant Martin Ingelsby, enters the weekend on a three-game winning streak. The Blue Hens have won the last three games by a combined four points, including back-to-back last-second wins. UD is 12-16 overall and 5-10 in CAA play.
- During its recent win streak, the Blue Hens downed Elon at home, 76-74, in overtime, before winning at JMU, 58-57, on a three-pointer by Darian Bryant with five seconds remaining. On Thursday night, Ryan Daly knocked down the game-winning triple with 12 seconds left in the Hens' 68-67 win over Drexel.
- Delaware ranks fifth in the CAA in scoring defense allowing 70.4 points per game, but that number has increased to 74.9 in CAA play. The Blue Hens ranks fourth in field goal percentage defense, limiting teams to 44 percent shooting.
- Offensively, UD is the lowest scoring team in the CAA at 64.5 points per game and have averaged fewer in league play at 64.1. Delaware plays at a slower place ranking among the 40 slowest in the country at 65.9 possessions per 40 minutes. The Blue Hens shoot 41.9 percent from the floor and 30.5 percent from 3.
- Freshman Ryan Daly has been the Blue Hens top player and one of the top freshmen in the CAA, earning the league's rookie of the week honor on five occasions. He is averaging 15.3 points per game, which is ninth in the CAA, and has increased his production to 17.9 in league action. Daly is also fifth in the conference and UD's leading rebounder at 7.1 per game.
- Junior Anthony Mosley is second on the team 9.8 points per game, while sophomore Darian Bryant has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games and is averaging 7.7 per contest. Mosley is second in the CAA in steals per game (1.7), while ranking 13th in assists per game (2.6). Sophomore Eric Carter ranks 18th in the CAA and second on the team at 5.1 rebounds per game. In the first meeting with the Tribe this season, Devonne Pinkard led UD with 21 points
- Delaware leads the all-time series with W&M at 24-11, including a 12-4 margin in Newark. The Tribe has won three straight in the series following an 82-58 win in Williamsburg earlier this season.
Head of the Class
- Seniors
Omar Prewitt and
Daniel Dixon are among the winningest classes in W&M history. With the Tribe's 89-79 win over Charleston on Feb. 11, they picked up their 74th career win, the most for a W&M senior class since freshman became eligible in 1972.
- Dixon and Prewitt also became the winningest CAA class in school history with the win over Charleston. It was the duo's 41st career CAA win, which surpassed the previous mark held by the 2016 class of
Terry Tarpey and
Sean Sheldon. Dixon and Prewitt are the winningest active class in the CAA in terms of league victories.
- Overall, Dixon and Prewitt's 74 career wins rank third all-time in program history, individually. Only Ed McMillian and Bob Benjamin won more games with the Tribe, tallying 80 from 1948-51. Prior to 1972, freshmen were granted eligibility following World War II and during the Korean War. Only nine players in W&M history played four seasons prior to freshmen being granted eligibility in 1972.
- The 41 CAA wins are the second for a Tribe class in W&M's conference history. Only McMillian and Benjamin, who won 43 games in the Southern Conference between 1948-51, have more conference wins in their four seasons.

Lighting Up the Scoreboard
• After scoring 80 or more points in 13 games last season, including four contest with 90-plus, the Tribe is once again flexing its offensive muscle this season scoring 80 or more points in 14 contests, including seven of the last eight. W&M has scored more than 90 points on eight occasions in 2016-17. The Tribe owns three 100-point games this season, which is the second time in program history and first since 1954-55.
• W&M is averaging 81.5 points per game in 2016-17, which ranks second in the CAA and 25th nationally. It would also better the program mark of 81.4 points per game, which was set during the 1955 season
• Over the last four seasons, W&M has scored 80 or more points in a game on 46 occasions. The Tribe is 39-7 (.848) over the stretch when accomplishing the feat. Over head coach
Tony Shaver's first 10 seasons at W&M, the Tribe scored 80 or more points 39 times with the record of 29-10 in those contests.
• W&M has ranked among the top three in the CAA in scoring each of the last four years, the only program in the league to do so.
• The Green and Gold recorded its third 100-point game of the season in a 108-85 triumph over Drexel. The 108 points were the second most in a CAA game in program history and tied highest total ever allowed by the Dragons in regulation.
• The Tribe lit up the scoreboard in back-to-back wins over Milligan and Savannah State to the tune of 113 and 112 points, respectively. It marked the first time in the 112-year history of W&M basketball that the program topped the century mark in back-to-back games.
The Dynamic Duo
• Seniors
Daniel Dixon and
Omar Prewitt have been a strong 1-2 scoring punch for the Tribe this season, combining for more than 33 points per game. Dixon leads the way at 18.3 points per game followed by Prewitt at 15.4.
• In CAA play, Dixon (21.5) and Prewitt (16.7) are the top scoring tandem in the league at 38.2 points per game. The duo has each scored 20 points in the same game three times in CAA play, including wins at Hofstra, vs. UNCW and Drexel.
• Both Prewitt (1,747) and Dixon (1,236) rank among the top 20 in W&M history in scoring. They are the seventh pair of Tribe teammates from the same recruiting class to reach 1,000 points in their careers and the fourth under head coach
Tony Shaver. It marks the ninth time in W&M history that multiple players on the same team were members of the 1,000-point club at the same time.
• W&M is one of 60 teams nationally with multiple 1,000-point scorers. Dixon and Prewitt are the 16th-best scoring duo in terms of career points currently in the country.
• In school history, Dixon and Prewitt are the second-highest scoring pair of teammates. They trail just Jeff Cohn (2003) and Bev Vaughan's (1185) 3188 points between 1958-61.
Dixon Scoring Tear
• Senior
Daniel Dixon has been on the tear of late, scoring in double figures in a career-best 19-straight games. Dixon ranks second in the league in scoring at 18.3 points per game overall. He has been even better in CAA play at 21.5 points per game, which is also second in the league.
• Over the last eight games, Dixon has been on a torrid pace. He is averaging 23 points per game, while shooting 52.9 percent (64-of-121) from the field and 51.1 percent (24-of-47) from 3-point range.
• Dixon has scored 20 or more points in 10 of the last 18 games. He has topped the 30-point mark in three times during that stretch.
• He tallied a career-high 36 points at Old Dominion on Dec. 29, which was a Ted Constant Center visitor's record. Dixon poured in 32 points on Jan. 5 against Elon and then again vs. Drexel on Jan. 30. Dixon is one of seven players in Tribe history with three 30-point games in the same season.
• After struggling and failing to score in 24 minutes at Central Michigan on Nov. 29, Dixon has scored in double figures in 18-straight games. In total, he leads W&M with 21 double-digit scoring games in 2016-17.
• During each of his four seasons at W&M, Dixon's scoring average has increased each season. In 2016-17, he is averaging a career-best 18.3 points per game, which leads the Tribe and ranks 81st nationally.
Bomber Package
• The Tribe lineup possesses some of the top 3-point shooters in the Colonial Athletic Association and some of the best in W&M history. The Green and Gold has three of the top 10 in the CAA in 3-point percentage and three of the top 10 in program history.
• Junior
Connor Burchfield is the NCAA's active Division I leader in career 3-point percentage, making 49.7 percent of his career attempts from 3 (89-of-179). He leads the CAA at 48.1 percent this season.
• Classmate
Greg Malinowski is fourth in the CAA shooting 41.7 percent from 3-point range, and senior
Daniel Dixon is 10th at 38.9 percent. While not reaching the minimum qualifications for the league rankings, sophomore
Paul Rowley has hit 31 3-pointers on the year and is shooting 45.6 percent from distance.
• Dixon tops the team and ranks third in the CAA at 2.4 3-pointers per game. He has ranked among the top five in the league in 3-pointers made each of the last three years.
• In W&M history, Burchfield, Malinowski and Dixon all ranks among the top 10 for career 3-point percentage. Burchfield leads the way and is No. 1 in program history shooting 49.7 percent from 3-point range followed by Malinowski in sixth (39.7 percent) and Dixon in seventh (39.3 percent)
The Dish with David Cohn
• After joining the Tribe as a transfer from Colorado State, junior
David Cohn has become a fixture at the point guard position in the Tribe lineup
• Cohn ranks fifth in the CAA and ranks 79th nationally at 4.7 assists per game this season. His 121 assists this season rank seventh in school history and are just three shy of the single-season top five. Cohn is the first player in W&M with back-to-back seasons of 120 or more assists.
• With his seven assists at Duke, Cohn surpassed the 200 mark for his career. He dished out 29 assists in his lone season at Colorado State and has 265 in his two seasons (55 games) with the Tribe. He currently ranks 18th on the Tribe's career assists list.
• Over his Tribe career, Cohn is averaging 4.8 assists per contest, which ranks as the W&M's career record.
• Last season, Cohn dished out 144 assists, the third-best total in program history. His assist average ranked second in the CAA and 93rd nationally.
• Cohn did a wonderful job taking care of the basketball as well in 2016 and that too has continued this season. He led the CAA and ranked 40th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.9) in 2015-16. This season, he ranks second in the CAA and 22nd nationally with a ratio of 2.8. His career assist-to-turnover ratio is 2.7.
