Women's Basketball Closes Homestand with Charleston Friday Night

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary women's basketball team closes out its two-game homestand as they welcome College of Charleston to Kaplan Arena on Friday, Feb. 17. Tip off between the Tribe and Cougars is set for 7 p.m.

Opening Tip
The William & Mary women's basketball team tries to make it two in a row as they close a homestand with the College of Charleston on Friday, Feb. 17. W&M embarks on another split weekend as the Tribe travels to Elon on Sunday, Feb. 19 for a 2 p.m. game. The Green and Gold and Charleston meet for the 18th time in series history on Friday night.
 
Last Time Out
The William & Mary women's basketball team never trailed and outscored Towson 21-11 in the fourth quarter, picking up a 68-55 Colonial Athletic Association victory on Sunday afternoon at Kaplan Arena. Senior Marlena Tremba scored a game-high 17 points, while she added a rebound, four assists, and three steals leading three Tribe players in double-figures. Junior Abby Rendle chipped in 13 points and five rebounds, while she tied the single season school record with three blocked shots, moving her season total to 85. Classmate Jenna Green rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points, two boards, six helpers, and a block.  Senior Alex Masaquel and junior Bianca Boggs both just missed double-doubles for the game. Masaquel finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, a career-high six assists, one block, and a steal. Boggs had nine points, a season-high nine rebounds, one assist, and one block.
 
Scouting the Cougars
College of Charleston opens its split weekend in Williamsburg against the Tribe on Friday night. The Cougars are looking to snap a two-game skid and complete the series sweep of the Tribe, sitting at 8-16, 5-8 in league action. For the year, CofC is averaging 64.5 points per game, while giving up 69.5. Breanna Bolden leads two players in double-figures with 17.8 points per game. Tanisha Brown is also in double-figures at 11.5 points per game. On the glass, the Cougars are averaging 39.3 rebounds per game. Bolden also leads the team with 8.7 rebounds a game. Brown is second on the team with 7.3 rebounds.
 
Series History
The Green and Gold and Charleston meet for the 18th time in series history on Friday night. The game serves as the final contest of the regular season series. W&M leads the all-time series by a 11-6 mark, but suffered a 70-60 loss at Charleston on Jan. 6. In that game, senior Alexandra Masaquel led the Tribe with a season-high 24 points and career-high 17 rebounds. She added three assists, a block and a steal. Junior Abby Rendle added 16 points and four rebounds, while senior Marlena Tremba chipped in 11 points. Junior Jenna Green added a career-high 11 helpers in the game.
 
The Road Ahead
W&M will alternate road and home games to close the season, starting on the road as they to Elon on Sunday, Feb. 19. Tip time between the Tribe and Phoenix is set for 2 p.m. The Green and Gold returns home for Senior Day on Friday, Feb. 24 against UNCW. Tip off between the Tribe and Seahawks is set for 7 p.m.
 
A Record Year
With its win over Towson on Feb. 12, the Tribe picked up its 16th win of the season surpassing its win totals for the past two seasons. The 16 victories are the most since the 2006-07 and are tied for the third most victories in school. The only two teams ahead of the current Tribe team are the 2006-07 squad with 19 wins, while the 1993-94 team owns a school record 20 victories.
