- The William & Mary women's basketball team, which is won eight of its last nine games, looks to make it two in a row in conference play as it travels to UNCW on New Year's Eve. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
Â
- W&M opens its conference slate with its first two games on the road for the second straight season and third time in four seasons. Under coach Swanson, the Tribe is 23-2 in its conference openers, and it has won its last three CAA openers. The Tribe is looking to move to 2-0 in CAA play for the second time in the last three years and just the fifth time in program history.
Â
- Today's game will be the seventh time in school history that the Tribe has played on New Year's Eve and the first time since the 2003-04 season. All-time the Tribe is 2-4 on the last day of the year.
Â
- The Tribe has shot, at least, 45-percent in seven of its 12 games, including accomplishing the feat in five of the last seven games. Furthermore, W&M has shot 50-percent, or better, in three games. For the season, the Green and Gold ranks 26th in the country at 46.4-percent.
Â
- After losing its top two scorers from last season, W&M has put, at least, three players in double-figures in all 12 games this season. Seniors
Jenna Green and
Abby Rendle as well as junior
Bianca Boggs lead the team with 10 double-digit performances. Sophomores
Victoria Reynolds (seven times) and
Nari Garner (three times) have also scored in double-figures, in at least one game, this season.
Â
- One of the Tribe's biggest question marks heading into the season was who was going to hit 3-pointers with the graduation of Marlena Tremba, Latrice Hunter, and Alexandra Masaquel, who combined for 66-percent of the team's 3-pointers last season. W&M has responded by shooting 34.7-percent (67-for-193) from range, which is third in the CAA.
Â
- Not only is senior
Jenna Green scoring at a higher rate this season, but she is also finding her teammates at a higher clip. The Clifton, Virginia native has been in double-figures in 10 games and is averaging 11.7 points per game. She has added 80 assists, which is good for 14th in the country, while her 6.7 apg. rank her 10th.
Â
- W&M's and the CAA's new all-time blocks leader senior
Abby Rendle broke the school record with her 256th career block in the game against Davidson, and then topped the league's record with her 274th career block versus ODU. Rendle is the nation's top shot blocker and is leading the country with 56 blocks and 4.7 bpg. Her 275 career blocks are also the third-most active blocks in the country. Not only has her shot blocking been impressive, but she is also getting it done offensively. In games she has played more than 10 minutes, she is averaging 17.0 ppg., 9.5 rpg., and 5.5 bpg. She has also been in double-figures in all 10 of those contests.
Â
- Junior
Bianca Boggs has had a strong start to the season. She has been the team's leading scorer four times, and recorded the most points in a game by a CAA player this season when she scored a career-high 33 points at St. Francis (Pa.) on Dec. 2. For the year she is averaging a team-high 15.9 points per game, which is third in the CAA, to go along with 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists.
Â
- For the past four seasons, W&M has led the CAA in steals each year. So far this season, the Tribe is doing the same. W&M has 133 thefts, which is second in the CAA and ranks 40th nationally. The Tribe's 11.1 spg. are first in the CAA and 35th in the NCAA.
