Women's Basketball Set for Home Opener Against Fairfield Tuesday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary women's basketball team looks to open its season 2-0 for the second time in three years as they welcome Fairfield to Kaplan Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Tipoff between the Tribe and Stags is set for 7 p.m.

• The William & Mary women's basketball team looks to improve to 2-0 for the second time in three years as they welcome Fairfield for its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Tuesday night. The Green and Gold is 2-2 in home openers under head coach Ed Swanson.

• The Green and Gold was selected to finish third in the preseason poll by a vote of league's 10 head coaches. W&M was only selected finish behind only James Madison and defending league champion Elon.

• Junior Bianca Boggs opened the season in grand fashion with her second career double-double with career-highs of 26 points and 11 rebounds in the win versus Howard. It was the 17th time in her career she has been in double figures.

• Senior Abby Rendle was named to the Preseason All-CAA Second-Team announced on the league's digital media day. The team's returning leading scorer, She finished last season with 287 points (9.3 ppg.) and 157 rebounds (5.1 rpg.), 32 assists, and 26 steals, and shot 49.8-perecnt (124-for-249) from the floor. One of the best shot blockers in the country she finished last year with a school records in both blocked shots (101) and blocked shots per game (3.3). Both numbers ranked sixth in the nation.

• Head coach Ed Swanson announced that senior Jenna Green and junior Misha Jones will be his team captains for the 2017-18 season. Green has played the most active games (92), while Jones returns to the fold after missing all of last season with an injury.

• The Tribe welcomes six newcomers to the program for the 2017-18 season with five freshmen and a transfer. Freshmen Tyra Cox, Bailey Eichner, Nyla Pollard, Gabby Rogers, and Libby Underwood could all factor into the rotation at some point. Sophomore Harper Birdsong transfers in from George Washington, but must sit out this season due to NCAA rules.

• All four freshmen – Bailey Eichner, Nyla Pollard, Gabby Rogers, and Libby Underwood – that were dressed made their collegiate debuts and scored their first career points against Howard. Pollard earned her first career start with six points, while Rogers added nine points and four boards off of the bench

• Sophomore Victoria Reynolds earned her first career start in the win at Howard on Saturday night and didn't disappoint. She notched a career-high 19 points with a career-high tying six rebounds. She went 6-of-12 from the line and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.  

• For the past four seasons, W&M has led the league in steals each year. Last season was no different as the Tribe led the CAA and ranked 41st in the country with 318 steals. Its 10.3 steals per game also lead the conference and ranked 31st in the NCAA. The Tribe  opened the season with 10 thefts in the win at Howard.

• W&M Athletics Director Samantha K. Huge announced on Thursday that head women's basketball coach Ed Swanson signed a five-year contract extension. Swanson has won 58 games in his first-four years with the Green and Gold, including a program record 20 wins last season.
