Women's Basketball Opens Three-Game CAA Homestand Against Elon Sunday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's basketball team looks to rebound from a loss at Towson as they open a three-game CAA homestand by welcoming Elon to Kaplan Arena on Sunday, Jan. 22. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.

Opening Tip
The William & Mary women's basketball team looks to get back into the win column as they play host to Elon on Sunday, Jan. 22. The matinee tips off at 2 p.m. W&M looks
make it a weekend split as they fell just short, 64-60, at Towson on Friday night. The Green and Gold meets Elon for only the ninth time in series history on Sunday afternoon.

Last Time Out
The William & Mary women's basketball team erased a 12-point first half deficit, but couldn't overcome a 10-point fourth quarter deficit as the comeback fell just short falling 64-60 at Towson on Friday night. Senior Marlena Tremba finished the game with 15 points, five rebounds, and a block. Junior Jenna Green equaled team-high honors as she poured in a season-high 15 points, added eight dimes, three steals, and a rebound. Classmate Abby Rendle rounded out the double-figure scores as she finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, an assist, and a steal. For the second straight game, W&M recorded 18 steals, and forced 24 turnovers. It was the first time this year, the Tribe has lost a game in which they force, more than, 20 miscues. Reynolds led the team with six steals, while Boggs had four and Green had three thefts.

Scouting the Phoenix
Elon is also looking to get back into the win column as they make the trek to Williamsburg. The Phoenix saw their nine game winning streak come to an end at the hands of James Madison, but come into the game with a 13-5 record, and a 5-1 league mark. A high scoring offense, Elon averages 70.7 points per contest. Shay Burnett and Lauren Brown each average 11.9 points per game and are the only players in double-figures. Jenifer Rhodes is just off of the double-digit pace at 9.9 points a night. The Phoenix also do a solid job on the glass bringing down 41.9 rebounds a game. Burnett leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game. Malaya Johnson is second on the squad with 6.3 rebounds a night. Charlotte Smith is in her sixth season at Elon. The former North Carolina star, has posted a 100-74 record during her career.

Series History
The Green and Gold meets Elon for only the ninth time in series history on Sunday afternoon. This will be the first of two meetings as the Tribe travels to Elon on Sunday, Feb. 19. The Phoenix lead the all-timer series 5-3, including taking all four games in the series since they joined the CAA. Last season, senior Marlena Tremba led the Tribe against Elon averaging 20 points and three assists in the two games. Classmate Alexandra Masaquel was also in double-figures averaging 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest.

The Road Ahead
W&M continues its season-long three-game home stand as they welcome Delaware to Kaplan Arena on Friday, Jan. 27. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The homestand concludes as the Tribe plays host to three-time defending league champion James Madison for the Golden Game. All fans are encouraged to wear gold and the first 1,000 will receive free gold rally towels. Tip time is set for 2 p.m.

Born to Assist
Junior Jenna Green's assist numbers have skyrocketed since CAA play has started. The junior has dished out 32 assists in just five games good for 6.4 assists per contest. Not only have her assists gone up, her turnovers have gone down, committing just eight in league play. She owns a 4.0 assist to turnover ratio in conference play. Both numbers lead the CAA in conference games only.
