WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Former William & Mary women's tennis standout Megan Moulton-Levy is returning to professional tennis and will compete in the Australian Open this week. After missing the last two years due to injury, Moulton-Levy is teaming with fellow American Lauren Davis to compete in her 13th career Grand Slam event.
In the opening round of the Australian Open, Moulton-Levy and Davis meet the Australian duo of Destanee Aiava and Alicia Smith. The winner faces either the No. 13-seeded team of Saisai Zhenge and Katarina Srebotnik or the pair of Christina McHale and Asia Muhammad in the second round.
Moulton-Levy, who has been ranked in the world top 50 in doubles during her career, used her WTA protected rankings of No. 61 to return and compete in the Australian Open in 2017. She last competed in a competitive match in the first round of the Australian Open in 2015. Over her brilliant career, the six-time All-American has advanced to the second round of all four Grand Slam doubles events. Moulton-Levy owns 11 professional doubles titles, including the WTA's Monterrey Open in 2014. Along with returning to the professional tour, she is currently a senior coach at Junior Champions Tennis Center in Maryland.
One of the most decorated players in W&M and Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) history, Moulton-Levy was a two-time winner of the ITA National Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. A four-time CAA Player of the Year, Moulton-Levy won the most combined (singles and doubles) matches in school history at 249. She still ranks second in program annals with 125 doubles wins, third in singles wins (124) and singles winning percentage (.775) along with being fifth on the doubles winning percentage list (.758). In 2007, Moulton-Levy teamed with 2009 graduate Katarina Zoricic to win the ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship and advance to the finals of the NCAA Doubles Championship.
