Men's Basketball Treks to Face Reigning CAA Champion UNCW

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After having its most recent tilt postponed due to winter weather, the William & Mary men's basketball team returns to action for the first time in a week, traveling to defending CAA Champion UNCW on Thursday night. The game features two of the top 50 scoring offenses in the country and tips off inside Trask Coliseum at 7 p.m. Fans can watch the contest online for FREE in HD at CAA.TV.

Tribe fans can also catch the men's basketball action over the Tribe Radio Network with Jay Colley and Charlie Woollum on the call. The Tide 92.3 FM and 107.9 Bach FM are the flagship stations of the Tribe Radio Network and the audio is also available over the Web at TribeAthletics.com.

News and Notes
- UNCW leads the all-time series with W&M at 41-26, including a 20-13 mark in Wilmington. The Tribe has enjoyed the most recent success with the Seahawks, winning seven of the last eight tilts, including three of the last four in Wilmington.
- Thursday pits two of the top offenses in the CAA. UNCW leads the league in points per game (86.8) and offensive efficiency, while the Tribe is second in scoring (81.3) and third in offensive efficiency. Both teams are among the top 50 nationally in scoring.
- Over the last seven games, senior Daniel Dixon is averaging 23.1 points per game. In fact, through three CAA games, he leads the league at 25.3 points per game. Against Elon, he recorded a 30-point game for the second time in the last four games and became the 39th W&M player to score 1,000 career points.
- The Tribe leads the CAA and ranks 24th nationally at 17.4 assists per game. According to KenPom.com, W&M is 18th in the country in assist rate, dishing out assists on 62.6 percent of its made field goals.
- W&M is averaging 27.9 points and 12.1 rebounds per game off the bench this season. The Tribe has outscored its opponents off the bench in 10 of its 14 games this season, including six contests with 30 or more points.
- Senior Omar Prewitt was recently named one of 30 national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. The honor recognized senior student-athletes that have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
 
Scouting UNCW
- The reigning league champion and preseason favorite to win it again, UNCW sits atop the league standings at 15-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league play. The Seahawks have won 12 of their last 13 games, including three of their first four CAA victories on the road. They are currently ranked No. 4 in the CollegeInsiders.com Mid-Major Top 25.
- The Seahawks sport one of the top offenses in the country. UNCW ranks 18th in offensive efficiency (116.8) according to KenPom.com. They average 86.8 points per game, which is 12th nationally. The Seahawks are 27th in effective field goal percentage, fifth in two-point field goal percentage and 18th in field goal percentage overall (49.3).
- UNCW is seventh nationally in turnover percentage offensively, only turning it over 11.5 times per game, while ranking 15th in defensive turnover percentage. The Seahawks turn their opponents 16.8 times per game, which ranks 18th nationally. UNCW is ninth nationally with a turnover margin of +5.2.
- Four Seahawks average more than 13 points per game and rank among the top 11 in the CAA. C.J. Bryce is second in the CAA at 17.8 points per game followed by Chris Flemmings in sixth at 15.9 points per game and Denzel Ingram in seventh at 15.2. Devontae Cacock nearly averages a double-double at 13.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest.
- Cacock leads the country in offensive rating (149.8), effective field goal percentage and true shooting percentage according to KenPom.com. He is shooting 82.8 percent from the field, which leads the country.
- Along with his scoring prowess, Ingram ranks 19th in the country at 3.3 3-pointers per game and 24th at 5.8 assists per game.
- UNCW leads the all-time series with W&M at 41-26, including a 20-13 mark in Wilmington. The Tribe has enjoyed the most recent success with the Seahawks, winning seven of the last eight tilts, including three of the last four in Wilmington. The teams played a pair of memorable games last season. UNCW tallied a 97-94 overtime win in Wilmington, before W&M rallied from a 12-point deficit with a 23-0 second-half run to down the Seahawks, 87-69 in Williamsburg.
 
Dixon Scoring Tear
- Senior Daniel Dixon has been on the tear of late, leading the Tribe in scoring each of the last four games. In CAA play, Dixon leads the league at 25.3 points per contest.
- Over the last seven games, Dixon is averaging 23.1 points per game. He is shooting 57.3 percent (55-of-96) from the field and 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from 3-point range. Dixon is also averaging 3.3 3-pointers made per contest during the stretch.
- Dixon scored 30 points in two of the last four games. He tallied a career-high 36 points at Old Dominion on Dec. 29, before pouring in 32 points on Jan. 5 against Elon.
- After struggling and failing to score in 24 minutes at Central Michigan, Dixon has scored in double figures in eight-straight games. In total, he leads the Tribe with 11 double-digit scoring games this season. His eight-straight games of 10 or more points is tied for the longest of his career along with an eight-game stretch from Dec. 5, 2015 through Jan. 9, 2016.
- During each of his four seasons at W&M, Dixon's scoring average has increased each season. In 2016-17, he is averaging a career-best 16.6 points per game, which leads the Tribe and ranks fourth in the CAA.
 
Prewitt Named a Candidate for the Senior CLASS Award
- Senior Omar Prewitt was selected as one of 30 candidates nationally for the 2016-17 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate basketball. The honor recognized senior student-athletes that have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
 - Prewitt is the lone CAA representative on the candidate list. He is the first Tribe men's basketball selection since Quinn McDowell was a top-10 finalists and Second-Team Senior CLASS All-American in 2012.
- On campus, Prewitt has been a men's basketball representative of W&M's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) each of the last three years. He helped with the program's annual blood drive and Harvest Baskets. Prewitt and SAAC collected approximately 100 harvest bags filled during the fall of 2016 with food donations to benefit FISH and Grove Christian Outreach in the Williamsburg community. In October, Prewitt helped lead SAAC's soctober drive, collecting sock donations to give to people in need in the Williamsburg community. Also in the community, Prewitt has be involved with reading at local elementary schools and encouraging students in their school work. He leads a small group of high school students at the Williamsburg Community Chapel.
- From the list of 30 candidates, a committee will select ten finalists for the Senior CLASS Award in February.  Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.  The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Men's Final Four® and NCAA Women's Final Four® this spring.
 
Don't Call it a Comeback
- The Tribe posted its 22nd double-digit comeback under head coach Tony Shaver on Jan. 5 against Elon. W&M trailed the Phoenix by 11 points with 1:22 remaining in the opening half, but used a 14-2 run spanning the end of the first half and start of the second to rally back.
- In each of the last two games, the Tribe trailed at halftime, but rallied to pick up victories. W&M trailed at Hofstra, 50-44, but posted a 95-93 win in overtime. The Green and Gold came back from a 44-38 halftime deficit against Elon to down the Phoenix, 88-85. It marked the first time W&M rallied from halftime deficits to record victories in back-to-back games since Jan. 31, 2016 and Feb. 4, 2016 against James Madison and Northeastern.
 
Dixon Hits the 1,000-Point Mark
- With his jumper at the 12:08 mark of the second half against Elon on Jan. 5, senior Daniel Dixon became the 39th player in W&M history with 1,000 career points.
- Dixon is the 12th player under head coach Tony Shaver to record 1,000 points, which is the most for any W&M coach.
- Dixon currently ranks 37th in school history with 1,011 points. He is only six points away from 36th, 17 shy of 35th and 20 short of 34th. He is 175th in scoring among active Division I players.
- Coupled with classmate Omar Prewitt, who has 1,550 career points, it marks the ninth time in W&M history that multiple players on the same team were members of the 1,000-point club at the same time. Dixon and Prewitt are the seventh pair of teammates from the same recruiting class to reach 1,000 points in their careers and the fourth under head coach Tony Shaver.
