WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The No. 62 William & Mary men's tennis team continues its six-match road swing when it takes on its first Colonial Athletic Association foe of the year in Elon on Sunday, April 3. The Green and Gold travels down to North Carolina to face the Phoenix beginning at 1 p.m., at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Sunday's tilt will be a rematch of the CAA semifinals from last season, which saw the Tribe pull out a thrilling 4-1 win on the way to the program's fourth league crown. It also gives W&M its first look at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, which hosts the CAA Championship later this month, April 22-24. Live stats for the event are available at

Scouting #62 William & MaryThe Tribe is coming off its highest nationally-ranked win in eight years thanks to a 4-2 win over No. 44 Drake on March 27. The Green and Gold last downed a higher ranked team on April 6, 2008 when it won at No. 34 Notre Dame, 4-3. W&M is 12-5 on the year and moved up 12 spots to No. 62 in the latest national rankings released on Tuesday. The Green and Gold is currently the highest-ranked CAA team, sitting one spot in front of No. 63 UNCW. Along with the win over Drake, the Tribe suffered a pair of 4-1 losses to No. 9 Texas Tech and No. 40 Rice at the Rice Invitational, but overall enjoyed a strong showing at the event. Senior

Christian Cargill went 3-0 at the No. 2 doubles post during the Rice Invite, and as a result, earned CAA Doubles Team of the Week honors. It was the second doubles award of the year for Cargill and Huang individually, but their first as a pair. In fact, four different W&M teams have earned the CAA weekly doubles award this season. Cargill and Huang downed the No. 53-ranked doubles team in the country in helping W&M to the doubles point against No. 9 Texas Tech. Junior

Lars de Boer posted wins at No. 3 doubles as the Green and Gold captured the doubles point against both the Red Raiders and Drake. Niquet won a pair of singles matches as well at the Invite, claiming wins at No. 6 against both Rice and Drake to extend his win streak to 12 matches. In the upset win over the Bulldogs, junior
Addison Appleby picked up a win at the No. 2 singles post, while Cargill clinched the win with a come-from-behind three-set victory at the top spot. Cargill, who improved to 9-6 at No. 1, trailed 4-1 in the third set to Drake's Ben Lott, before winning six of the match's final seven games to clinch the Tribe triumph. Junior

Scouting Elon Elon won its sixth straight match on Tuesday night, downing UNCG, 4-3, to improve to 13-4. Elon is 8-1 at home this season with its only setback coming to No. 28 Old Dominion, 4-1. In fact, all four Elon losses on the year have come to nationally-ranked competition as they fell to No. 1 Virginia, No. 13 Duke and No. 40 N.C. State along with its setback to ODU. W&M and Elon have two common opponents in Coastal Carolina and Brown. The Phoenix went 2-0 against the group, including a 4-3 win over Brown, while the Tribe went 1-1, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Bears. Elon's lineup is young, featuring four freshmen among its top six players. Freshman Salvador Mijares won at No. 4 in three sets to clinch the 4-3 win over UNCG and sits at 11-3 on the year. Freshman Felipe Sarrasague (No. 2), junior Petar Tomic (No. 5) and freshman Felipe Osses-Konig (No. 6) each posted singles wins in the victory over UNCG. Sarrasague is 10-4 at the No. 2 spot, while fellow rookie Mario Paccini is 8-8 playing primarily at No. 1. Senior Robert Lindgren plays primarily at the No. 3 spot and owns a 11-4 mark. In doubles, junior Chris Humphreys and Tomic are Elon's No. 1 team, owning a 6-5 ledger.
Series History: W&M vs. Elon The Tribe leads the all-time series with the Phoenix at 3-0, but all three wins came in Williamsburg. Sunday will mark W&M's first trip to Elon. Last season, the Green and Gold posted a 4-1 win over the Phoenix in the CAA semifinals on the way to winning its fourth conference title.
