Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary baseball team rallied back twice, but couldn't do so a third time as they fell in 13 innings 8-6 to Georgetown in the series opener on Friday night at Plumeri Park. With the decision the Tribe falls to 12-12, while the Hoyas improve to 13-14.

Charles Ameer and freshman
Kyle Wrighte led the Tribe offense with two hits apiece. Ameer had two doubles, while Wrighte had an RBI.
The Green and Gold took an early lead thanks to the long ball. With two outs, freshman
Zach Pearson belted a homer over the right field wall. His first career homer gave W&M a 1-0 lead.
Georgetown came right back and tied the score with a run in the top of the third inning. With one out, Beau Hall walked which was matched by a single from Austin Shirley, putting runners on the corners. The third consecutive single of the inning by Michael DeRenzi tied the score. With two outs and runners on the corners an error on a strike three in the dirt pushed across the second run of the inning.
The Hoyas extended on their lead with a homer in the top of the sixth inning. Christian Sanchez pushed a one-out homer over the left field lead, making the score 3-1.
Ameer manufactured a run on the bases for the Tribe in the bottom of the sixth. He led off the inning with a double, moving to third on a fly out. With two outs, the junior scored on a wild pitch cutting the lead to 3-2.
W&M tied the score in the bottom of the seventh inning with a run. Junior
Cullen Large was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, moving to second on a stolen base. With two outs, Wrighte slapped a single to right, tying the score at 3-3.
GU retook the lead with three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Jake Kusbel led off the inning by reaching on an error, moving to second on a walk. An error moved each runner up 90 feet. After a strikeout, Sanchez doubled into the right centerfield scoring two runs. With runners on the corners, Eric Webber dropped a bunt down the first base line, moving the lead to 6-3.
The Tribe got a run back in the bottom of the eighth inning. Ameer led off the inning with a double. With two outs, senior
Charley Gould worked a ball into right field, cutting the deficit to 6-4.
W&M knotted the score with two runs in the bottom of the ninth forcing extra innings. Pearson reached on a fielder's choice with one out to start the rally. After an out, junior
Tim Hoehn, who was pinch hitting, singled up the middle followed by a walk to Ameer, loading the bases. Down to his final strike junior
Ryder Miconi singled into centerfield tying the score 6-6.
The Hoyas loaded the bases in the top of the 11th inning, but senior reliever
Joseph Gaouette got out of the mess. A pair of infield singles and walked caused the damage, but Gaouette got out the jam with a strikeout.
GU plated two runs in the top of the 13th inning. The Hoyas loaded the bases on two Tribe errors and a walk. After an out, Jake Kuzbel singled into right field giving the Hoyas an 8-6 advantage, which they held onto in a scoreless bottom of the 13th.
Junior starting pitcher
Nick Brown turned in his longest and best outing of the season, but didn't factor into the decision. He went seven innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with a season-high seven punchouts. Sophomore
Charlie Fletcher was saddled with his first loss he tossed one inning without allowing a hit, but gave up two runs (one earned)
Jimmy Swad was credited with the win for the Hoyas. He tossed the final two innings allowing just one hit with a strikeout. Offensively, Georgetown was led by Sanchez, who a doubled, a homered, and had three RBI. Kuzbel finished the game with a pair of hits and two RBI.
The College and Georgetown continue their series tomorrow, Saturday, April 2 at 4 p.m. The series concludes on Sunday, April 3 with first pitch coming at 1 p.m.
