Women's Basketball Welcomes Towson Friday for Senior Day

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's basketball team returns to Williamsburg to host Towson on Friday, Feb. 26. Tipoff for the game, which will serve as the Tribe's senior night, is set for 7 p.m.

OPENING TIP
The William & Mary women's basketball looks to build momentum off of its biggest win of the season as they return home to face Towson on Friday, Feb. 26. Tipoff between the Tribe and Tigers is set for 7 p.m. W&M is looking to move its winning streak to two games after posting a 66-40 victory on the road at College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon. The Tribe meets Towson for the 26th time in series history on Friday night at Kaplan Arena. It is the final meeting of the regular season, and W&M is looking for the series sweep. W&M leads the all-time series by a 15-10 mark, and has won the last two games in the series, and the last two times the teams have played in Williamsburg.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Junior Alexandra Masaquel turned in her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds and classmate Marlena Tremba scored a game-high 19 points as the William & Mary women's basketball team picked up a 66-40 victory over College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon. Masaquel added a career-high tying five assists, one block, and one steal to go along with her 18 points and 10 rebounds. Tremba also had five rebounds, four assists, and two steals, along with her game-high point total. Freshman Ali Engelhardt added eight points, two rebounds, and one block off of the bench. W&M's 26-point victory was the largest margin of victory of the season. The Tribe finished the day with its second-best shooting performance of the year as well, firing 52.9-percent (27-of-51) from the floor.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Towson enters Friday's contest looking to get back into the win column after falling in their last two games. The Tigers posted a 62-51 victory over College of Charleston on Feb. 21 in their last win. Towson is averaging 62.2 points per game this season. Raven Bankston leads three Tigers in double figures with 15.3 points per game. Dominique Johnson is second on the team with 13.5 points per game, while Sianni Martin is third on the team with 10.1 points a game. TU is bringing down 38.8 rebounds a night as a team. Daijah Thomas leads the team with 6.3 rebounds a night, while Raven Bankston is second on the team with 4.7 rebounds. Niki Reid Geckeler is in her third season at Towson, posting a 30-58 record. She has posted a 115-150 record in her eight seasons as a head coach.
 
SERIES HISTORY   
The Tribe meets Towson for the 26th time in series history on Friday night at Kaplan Arena. It is the final meeting of the regular season, and W&M is looking for the series sweep. W&M leads the all-time series by a 15-10 mark, and has won the last two games in the series, and the last two times the teams have played in Williamsburg.
The William & Mary women's basketball team scored 16 of the first 18 points of the third quarter on its way to a 73-54 victory at Towson on Friday night. Junior Marlena Tremba scored a game-high 16 points, leading three W&M players in double-figures. Tremba, who didn't play in the fourth quarter, added two rebounds, two assists, and two steals for the Green and Gold. Junior Alexandra Masaquel just missed her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Sophomore Abby Rendle added 14 points, five rebounds, four dimes, two assists, and two steals, while classmate Jeanne Gaumont scored a career-high nine points with five assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
 
THE ROAD AHEAD
The Tribe closes out its three of the four games of the road and the road portion of its schedule as they travel to Drexel for a game on Sunday, Feb. 28. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. The final game of the regular season is set for Wednesday, March 2 as the Tribe will square off with Elon. Tip time from Kaplan Arena is set for 7 p.m.
 
SENIOR SALUTE
Prior to Friday's game the Tribe will honor a pair of seniors that have been an integral part of the Tribe basketball program during their college career in senior guard Brooke Stewart and senior student manager Lauren DeBisschop.
 
NOTHING FROM RANGE
For the fourth consecutive season the Tribe held an opponent without a 3-pointer in the game when they shutout Charleston from range on Feb. 21.
The last two times the Tribe has played at TD Arena, they have held the Cougars without a 3-pointer.
 
BATTLE OF THE GLASS
For the first time in CAA play and just the sixth time overall, the Tribe won the rebounding battle at Charleston on Feb. 21. The Tribe limited the Cougars to season-low 24 rebounds allowed. W&M is 5-1 this season when they win the battle of the boards.
 
MOVING ON UP  
Junior Marlena Tremba has started her assent up the career-scoring list at the College. Against Delaware on Feb. 14 she entered the top 15 in school history with 1089 points. Currently with 1108 points, she is five points from moving into 14th place all-time.

HELPING HANDS  
Sophomore Jenna Green moved into a tie for 14th in single-season history with her 100th assist of the season against Charleston. It is the second straight season she clipped the century mark in helpers. She is nine assists away from entering the top 10 in single-season school history. Junior Marlena Tremba is just off of the pace with 98 assists, which already a career-high for her.

FIRST POINTS OF THE GAME
Junior Alexandra Masaquel has had a knack this season of scoring the Tribe's first points of the game. The Honolulu, Hawaii native has scored the first W&M bucket in 11 of the 26 games, including the six of the last eight games. Overall, the Green and Gold has scored the first basket of 15 of 26 games.
 
O' CANADA
Sophomore Jeanne Gaumont returned to the lineup after missing five games with an injury and has been a staple on the floor, including returning to the starting lineup against Delaware on Feb. 14. Gaumont has set her career-high twice during the stretch with 10 points, and also has played a career in minutes (31) twice.
 
THE CENTURY MARK
Senior Brooke Stewart will participate in her 100th career game as a member of the Tribe when she checked in the game against UNCW on Sunday, Feb. 7. The lone senior on the team, she will become the fourth player in the last three years to eclipse the 100 game mark of their career joining Kaitlyn Mathieu '14, Jazmen Boone '15, and Kyla Kerstetter, '15.
 
BIG SHOT LATRICE
Junior Latrice Hunter enjoyed her best game since her freshman season against Northeastern on Jan. 31. She hit five 3-pointers to finish the game with a season-high 15 points. Hunter, who has started the past four games for the Green and Gold,  is averaging 5.1 points per game to go with 1.7 assists in 17.1 minutes.
 
RAINING THREES
W&M drained a season-high 10, 3-pointers against Northeastern on Jan. 31. The 10, 3-pointers is the most in a game since they hit 10 triples against Longwood on Nov. 29, 2014. That game was the only time during the 2014-15 season that the Tribe hit more than 10 triples.
