News and Notes- W&M leads the all-time series with Elon an 8-1, including wins in three of the four contests since the Phoenix joined the CAA last season. The lone Elon win in the series came in North Carolina, 85-79, a season go. The Tribe tallied an 89-67 win over the Phoenix in January, and in its three wins over the last two years, the Green and Gold limited Elon to 67 or fewer points.

Omar Prewitt tallied 20 or more points for the Tribe against Drexel. He scored a season-high 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting against the Dragons. Prewitt, who ranks second in the league at 18 points per game, leads the CAA with 12 20-point games.

David Cohn moved into third place on the Tribe's single-season assists list with 131. He ranks second in the CAA and 76th nationally at 4.9 assists per game.

Scouting ElonElon enters the week at 15-14 overall and 6-10 in the CAA. The Phoenix has dropped four of its last five games, but three of those losses have been by four points each. Following an 81-76 win over Drexel on Feb. 18, Elon suffered a 67-56 loss at Towson on Saturday.

The Phoenix is one of the top scoring in the CAA at 76.9 points per game, which is 88th nationally. Elon plays one of the fastest paces in the country at nearly 73 possessions per game. They attempted the sixth-most 3-pointers in the country and rank among the top 20 in 3-pointers per game at 9.5. Nearly 37 percent of Elon's scoring comes from 3-point range, which ranks among the top 25 in the country. The Phoenix ranks fourth in the CAA in field goal percentage (44.7), including a 45-percent clip in league play. Defensively, Elon allows most points in CAA at 76.6 per game.

Tanner Samson leads the Phoenix in scoring at 12.2 points per game, which is 18th in CAA. He is third in the league in 3-pointers made (2.6) and 12th in 3-point percentage (36.6), both numbers are in the top 100 nationally. In total, Elon has eight players averaging 8.8 points per game. Luke Eddy is 27th in the CAA at 10.7 points per game, while also coming in third at 4.7 assists per contest. Freshman Tyler Seibring is second in the CAA at 39.9 percent from 3-point range. In CAA play, he is averaging 11.9 points per game and shooting 45.5 percent from 3-point range. Christian Hairston leads the Phoenix and ranks 12th in the CAA in rebounding at 6.1 per game.

The Tribe is 58-34 (.630) overall and 32-18 (.640) in CAA action over the last three years. The Tribe's 58 wins are two better than Towson and eight more than both Hofstra and JMU. In CAA play, W&M has 32 wins, which is four more than UNCW, JMU and Towson. The Green and Gold is the only team in the conference over the stretch with a winning percentage over 60 percent.

Omar Prewitt has scored in double figures in 24 of the Tribe's 27 games this season, including each of the last nine contests. He owns five 20-point games in the last six contests, including a career-long four-game streak from Feb. 4-13. Prewitt started the stretch with 28 points on 12-of-18 shooting in a win at Northeastern. He followed that up with 21 points against Delaware, 25 vs. Hofstra and 20 at Towson on Feb. 13. He recorded a season-high 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting against Drexel. His 12 20-point games this season lead the CAA. W&M is 8-4 when Prewitt scores 20 points this season and 10-4 when he leads them in scoring. He is second in the CAA and 87th nationally at 18 points per game. Over the last six games, Prewitt is averaging 22.7 points per game, shooting 56.8 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from 3.Â

Winning Double-Digit CAA Games With its win over UNCW on Feb. 18, the Tribe recorded its 10th CAA win, marking the third-straight season in which the program won double-digit league games. In total, it is the fifth time under head coach
Tony Shaver that the Green and Gold has won 10 or more CAA contests. Prior to Shaver's arrival in Williamsburg, the Green and Gold had just one such season in CAA play. W&M was 10-6 in conference action in 2013-14 and followed that up winning the regular season at 12-6 last year. Overall, it's the first time the Tribe has won 10 or more league games in three-straight seasons since the 1949-50, 1950-51 and 1951-52 seasons as part of the Southern Conference. The 2015-16 edition of the Tribe is the 12th to post double-digit league wins in the Tribe's 80 years being affiliated with a conference.Â

Scoring in the 80'sThe Tribe is averaging 82 points per game over the last 11 contests. In total, the Green and Gold tallied at least 80 points in eight of its last 11 contests, including five straight contests from Feb. 4-18. It marked the first time in 47 years that a Tribe team scored 80 or more points in five straight games. The five contests in a row equaled a school record first set in 1969. During the first five games of December in 1969, the Tribe scored 84 vs. N.C. State, 80 at West Virginia, 84 at Virginia Tech, 82 at Georgetown and 81 vs. Richmond. On the year, the Tribe is scoring 77.7 points per game, which is the fourth-best single-season scoring averaging in program history and the best since 1970 (78.4). In CAA play, W&M ranks second in the league at 78.9 points per game.
