News and Notes
- W&M and Savannah State meet for the first time. The match-up pits two of the top 50 scoring offenses in the country. SSU ranks 18th at 86.3 points per game, while the Tribe is 45th at 81.5 per contest.
- The Tribe owns a 17-game home court non-conference winning streak, dating back to 2013. The Tribe's home record over the last three seasons is 38-9 (.809).Â
- W&M set a program record with 68 first-half points in the win over Milligan. The Tribe's 113 points were the second-most in school history, while the 54-point winning margin tied the largest in Kaplan Arena history.
- Junior
Greg Malinowski is averaging 16 points per game over the last three contests. He scored 20 points in his first start of the year vs. Milligan. He is shooting 56.7 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from 3-point range over the last three.
- Senior
Omar Prewitt, who ranks ninth in the CAA in scoring, is closing in on a couple of milestones. He is 25 points away from becoming the eighth W&M player with 1,500 career points and only one rebound shy of being the 30th Tribe athlete with 500 boards.
- The Tribe ranks second in the CAA and 40th nationally at 16.8 assists per game. According to KenPom.com, W&M ranks 44th in the country in assist rate, dishing out assists on 60.8 percent of its made field goals.
- After blocking 15 shots against Milligan, the Green and Gold leads the CAA and ranks 50th nationally in rejections at five per game.

Scouting Savannah State
- Savannah State enters the contest with the Tribe at 3-8 overall and is coming off its biggest win of the year at Oregon State, 93-90, in overtime. The Tigers knocked down 15 3-pointers and used a 7-0 run in OT to down the Beavers. Along with Oregon State, SSU has played a number major conference opponents, including Iowa State, Iowa, Memphis, San Diego State and Oregon.
- The Tigers also own wins over Middle Georgia State, 101-93, and Fort Valley State, 118-101. SSU has hit 10 or more 3-pointers in every game this season, including season-highs of 23 vs. Fort Valley and 24 against Middle Georgia.
- Savannah State ranks 18th nationally in scoring at 86.3 points per game, but also allow the most points per game in the country at 103.7 per contest. SSU leads the NCAA at 15.5 3-pointers per game and is ninth at 19.2 assists per contest.
- According to KenPom.com, the Tigers rank second in the country in adjusted tempo at 81.8 possessions per game. They are also tops nationally in average length of possession at 12.5 seconds. SSU is No. 1 in the country in percentage of points from 3-pointers (50.5) and in percentage of field goal attempts from 3 (57.6).
- The Tigers have a deep rotation with 12 guys averaging at least eight minutes per game. Seven different SSU players average eight or more points per game, and eight players have hit 10 or more 3-pointers this season.
- Sophomore Dexter McClanahan leads Savannah State at 13.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 41.5 percent from 3-point range. Senior Troyce Manassa and junior Austin Dasent average in double figures at well at 11.9 and 11.7 points per game, respectively. Manassa shoots 46.3 percent from 3-point range followed by Dasent at 45.8.
- As a team, Savannah State shoots 37.9 percent from 3-point range. Casey Wells averages nearly three 3-pointers per game and is shooting 40.5 percent from long range.

Down Right Offensive
- The Tribe enjoyed one of the best offensive performances in school history during its 113-59 win over Milligan on Dec. 16. The 113 points are the second most in W&M history, the fourth game of 110 points or more in program lore and the most under head coach
Tony Shaver.
 - It marked the most points for a Tribe team since a school-record 116 vs. George Mason in Kaplan Arena on Feb. 27, 1995.
- W&M scored a program-record 68 first-half points against the Buffaloes. It topped the previous school mark for points in a half of 64 set against Virginia Tech in 1955.Â
- The Green and Gold connected on a season-high 60.6 percent from the field against Milligan. It marked the Tribe's best shooting performance since hitting on 64.8 percent (35-of-54) in 100-79 win over Hofstra in 2015. It marked the 10th time under Shaver that W&M shot 60 percent or better from the field. W&M is 10-0 in those contests.
- The Tribe's 40 made field goals against the Buffaloes was the fifth-best single-game total in school history.
- Six W&M player scored in double figures for the first time since 2011 in the contest. Senior

Greg Malinowski and junior
Connor Burchfield led the Tribe with 20 points apiece. It was the Tribe's first game with three 20-point scorers since Matt Verkey (32), Kurt Small (28) and Carl Parker (24) pulled the trick in the 116-point game against Mason in 1995.
- The Tribe's 54-point margin of victory tied largest in Kaplan Arena history along with the Green and Gold's 105-51 win over Christopher Newport in 1976.

Block Party
- The Tribe leads the CAA and ranks 50th nationally at five blocked shots per game. It marks the third straight season that W&M has ranked among the top 100 nationally and in the top three in the CAA in blocked shots.
- In 2015-16, the Tribe averaged 4.3 blocked shots per game, ranking third in the CAA and 77th nationally. During the 2014-15 campaign, the Green and Gold was second in the league and 85th in the country at 4.2 rejections per game.
- In its victory over Milligan on Dec. 16, the Tribe blocked 15 shots, which is the most in the CAA this season. It marked the most blocked shots for a Tribe team since the Green and Gold set a program record of 17 against George Mason in 1996. The 15 blocked shots rank fourth in program history.
- Along with ranking among the league and national leaders the last two season, the Tribe produced the third (137 in 2015) and fourth (132 in 2016) best single-seasons of blocked shots.

Oh What a Knight
- In his first collegiate start vs. Milligan, freshman
Nathan Knight tallied the first double-double of his young career. The Green and Gold rookie scored 14 points on 4-of-6 from the floor and 6-of-7 at the free throw line to go along with 10 rebounds. It was the first double-double for a W&M freshman since 2008.
- To make his night against the Buffaloes even more impressive, Knight blocked a W&M freshman record seven shots. His seven rejections rank fourth in W&M history and the most since David Cully's school-record 10 blocked shots against George Mason in 1996.
- It marked just the eighth game of seven or more blocked shots in school history. Knight is just the second player along with Cully, who owns the other seven contests, to have seven or more blocked shots in a game.
- Knight leads the CAA at 1.5 blocked shots per game.
- Along with his double-double vs. Milligan, Knight enjoyed double-digit performance at Louisville (14 points and seven rebounds) and Duke (11 points and five rebounds).

Improved Free Throw Shooting
- The Tribe has shot the ball better from the free throw line recently. Over the last five games, W&M is shooting 75 percent (93-of-124) from the charity stripe and averaging 18.6 made free throws per game. Those numbers are up from 62.1 percent (36-of-58) and 12 made free throws per game over the first three contests.
- The Green and Gold currently ranks fourth in the CAA at 70.9 percent from the charity stripe.
- According KenPom.com, as of Dec. 17, W&M ranks 83rd nationally at getting to the free throw line.
- The Tribe has connected on 80 percent or better at the free throw line in three games this season. W&M shot a season-high 86.7 percent (13-of-15) at Central Michigan on Nov. 29.

Malinowski Finding His Form
- After missing the majority of the preseason due to injury, junior
Greg Malinowski has started to find his form recently. Over the last three games, Malinowski is averaging 16 points and four rebounds per game, while shooting 56.7 percent (17-of-30) from the field and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from 3-point range.
- After coming off the bench in the first seven games while working his way back from injury, he earned his first start of the season and seventh of his career vs. Milligan. Malinowski led the Tribe with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including a 3-of-7 effort from 3-point range. That performance came on the heels of back-to-back 14-point games at Central Michigan and Hampton.
- It marks the first time in his career that Malinowski scored 10 or more points in three-straight games. Last season he posted back-to-back double-digit efforts on the road at Charleston (10) and UNCW (12).
- Malinowski has scored in double figures in four contests this season. During his first two seasons, he was the Tribe's top scorer off the bench. He owns 15 games of double-digit scoring, and W&M is 10-5 in those contests.Â
- With his recent offensive outburst, Malinowski currently ranks fourth in the CAA in 3-point percentage (44.8) and 13th in 3-pointers made per game (1.6).

Bomber Package
- The Tribe lineup possesses four of the top 3-point shooters in the Colonial Athletic Association in juniors
Connor Burchfield and
Greg Malinowski as well as senior
Daniel Dixon and sophomore
Paul Rowley. W&M has three of the top six in the CAA in 3-point percentage and three of the top 15 in 3-pointers made per game.
- Burchfield, who led the country in 3-point percentage last season at 56.3 percent, tops the CAA at 53.3 percent in 2016-17. He has connected on multiple triples in five of the Tribe's eight games, including a career-high tying six vs. Milligan.
- Malinowski is fourth in the league at 44.8 percent from 3-point range. Over the last four games, he is shooting 57.9 percent (11-19). Malinowski connected on three or more 3-pointers in each of the last three games.
- Rowley, who has started all eight games for W&M this season after only appearing in eight contests last year, ranks sixth in the league in 3-point percentage (41.4). He connected on 4-of-6 against Presbyterian and 3-of-4 at Duke earlier this season.
- Burchfield tops the team and ranks seventh in the CAA at two 3-pointers per game. Dixon is 12th in the CAA at 1.8 3-pointers per game, while Malinowski is 13th at 1.6 triples per contest.
