Women's Basketball Hosts Delaware State Monday Night

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Following a six day layoff for Thanksgiving, the William & Mary women's basketball team returns to action as they return to Williamsburg and host Delaware State on Monday, Nov. 28. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Opening Tip
The William & Mary women's basketball team looks to move its winning streak to four in a row as they return to Williamsburg and host Delaware State on Monday, Nov. 28. Tonight's matchup opens the Tribe's second, two-game homestand of the year and opens a stretch of three games in six days. The Green and Gold meets Delaware State for the sixth time in series history.
 
Last Time Out
Behind a strong defensive effort, the William & Mary women's basketball team held on for a 49-46 road win at USC Upstate on Tuesday night in Spartanburg, S.C. Senior Marlena Tremba led the way with her sixth straight double-digit performance dating back to last year. The senior finished with 11 points, two rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Classmate Alexandra Masaquel finished with 10 points, six rebounds, and five steals, while senior Latrice Hunter added eight points, sparing the Tribe in the first half. The Green and Gold defense limited the Spartans to just 24.2-percent (15-of-62) from the field. It was the second time in the last three contest that W&M has limited a team to under 25-percent from the floor.
 
Scouting the Hornets
Delaware State also returns to the court for the first time in six days as they head to Williamsburg Monday. The Hornets are 1-4 and are looking to get back in the win column as they play their second straight CAA opponent (loss at Hofstra 64-44). NaJai Pollard leads the team with 21.4 points per game. Mikah Aldridge is also in double-figures with 11.0 points per game, but she has not appeared in the last two contests. On the glass, DSU brings down 43.6 rebounds per night. Pollard is averaging a double-double as she brings down 10.6 boards a contest, while Lanayjha Ashe is second with 4.6 rpg. Barbara Burgess in her second season at the helm of her alma mater. She owns a 10-25 record.
 
Series History
The Green and Gold meets Delaware State for the sixth time in series history. W&M is a perfect 5-0 against the Hornets, which includes a 65-59 road victory a season ago. In that game, Senior Marlena Tremba led the Tribe with 21 points and five rebounds, while classmate Alex Masaquel recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
 
The Road Ahead
W&M continues its stretch of three games in six days as they close out the two-game homestand with Dartmouth on Thursday, Dec. 1. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The Tribe concludes its schedule prior to the final exam break on Saturday, Dec. 3 at American. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
 
Road Warriors
For the first time since the 1999-00 season the Tribe women's basketball team won its first two true road games of the season. W&M has posted 16 road wins dating back to the 2014-15 season.
 
Cold as Ice
Aside from forcing turnovers and blocking shots, the Tribe defense has done a good job locking down opponent's shooters, limiting teams to a league best .356 field goal percentage. Furthermore, the Tribe has held two of its last three opponents to under 25-percent from the floor. 
 
Better Call Collect
Additionally the Tribe has done a good job of defending the 3-point arc this season. The Tribe has limited its opponents to just 26.6-percent from distance, which ranks second in the CAA.
