News and Notes
 • The Tribe and Louisville meet for the first time since 1952 on Monday night. The Cardinals are 2-0 all-time vs. W&M as the Green and Gold treks to Louisville for the first time since 1950.
• W&M owns three wins against the ACC under head coach Tony Shaver, including an 85-68 win at N.C. State last season. In 2010, the Tribe downed an NCAA Tournament team in Wake Forest and the ACC regular season co-champion Maryland, both on the road.
• Louisville will be the first of three W&M opponents ranked in the preseason top 25. The Tribe travels to No. 1 Dukes on Nov. 23 and No. 23 Rhode Island on Dec. 22, as well.
• The Green and Gold established a school record and tied the CAA mark with 22 steals in the season-opener against Bridgewater.
• Freshman Justin Pierce made an exceptional collegiate debut vs. Bridgewater, leading W&M with 17 points, six rebounds and four steals. It was the most points for a Tribe rookie in his debut since 2006.
• The Tribe was picked No. 3 in the CAA's preseason poll released in October behind 2016 champion UNCW and Towson.
• W&M has won 20 games in each of the last three seasons. The Tribe is one of 50 teams nationally and one of only 19 mid-major programs with 20 wins each of the last three years.

Scouting Louisville
• Louisville opened the season with a 78-47 win over Evansville at home on Friday night. Junior Jaylen Johnson led the Cardinals with a 19-point, 14-rebound double-double, while sophomore Donovan Mitchell added 15 points, three assists and four steals. Defensively, UofL held the Purple Aces to 28.1 percent shooting and dominated the glass, 52-29.

• The Cardinals were ranked in the top 15 nationally in the initial polls of 2016, coming in at No. 13 in the AP poll and 14th in the USA Today poll.  Louisville was picked to finish fourth ACC Preseason poll.

• UofL returns 10 letterwinners, including starters Quentin Snider and Jaylen Johnson, from last season's squad that finished with a 23-8 record and was ranked among the top 20 nationally. Snider is the top returning Cardinals' scorer for the second straight at 9.4 points per game. He also averaged 3.5 assists per contest with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.73.

• The Cardinals picked up their 100th victory inside the KFC Yum! Center against Evansville. UofL is a remarkable 100-14 record (.877) in the facility.

• Over the last five years, Louisville ranks fifth nationally with 146 victories and is one of only three teams with at least 30 wins in three of the last five years. The Cardinals have won 20 or more games in each of the last 14 years, one of only four teams nationally to accomplish the feat.

• Louisville leads the all-time series with W&M at 2-0, but the teams have not met since 1952. UofL won the last meeting, 93-65, in Williamsburg. In the Tribe's only trip to Louisville, the Cardinals posted a 70-47 victory in 1950.

Success vs. the Power Five
Under head coach Tony Shaver, W&M has enjoyed success against Power Five opponents, including a quartet of wins. Here is a look at some of the Tribe's success against the Power Five since the 2009-10 season:

• W&M is 16-94 all-time against the ACC, including a 3-6 mark under head coach Tony Shaver the last six seasons.

• Last season, W&M used a 17-2 run in the opening half to claim a 20-point cushion on the way to an 85-68 win at N.C. State. The Tribe shot 51.7 percent from the field and controlled every facet of the game, including a 17-4 advantage in fastbreak points and a 40-28 cushion in the paint. Daniel Dixon and Omar Prewitt topped W&M with 19 and 17 points, respectively, vs. the Wolfpack.

• Though not a member of a Power 5 conference, the Tribe dropped a three-point game, 69-66, to Atlantic 10 Champion Dayton Flyers in 2015. The Green and Gold trailed by as much as nine in the second half, before using a 13-2 run to take a 62-60 lead with 1:29 remaining. Dixon led the Tribe with 24 points, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, while Prewitt added 10 points.

• In 2014, W&M rallied from a 12-point first-half deficit to pick up a 72-62 win at current Big Ten team Rutgers. Marcus Thornton led all scorers with 28 points for W&M, while Terry Tarpey and Prewitt chipped in 11 and nine points, respectively.

• During the 2012-13 season, the Tribe suffered a pair of narrow losses against two Power Five opponents, despite halftime leads. The Green and Gold fell at ACC foe Wake Forest, 63-57, but led 30-23 at the half. Later in the season, W&M led Purdue of the Big Ten, 40-39, at the half, but could not hold on before falling to the Boilermakers, 73-66.

• In 2010-11, W&M nearly upset No. 10-ranked Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. The Tribe led by four points with five minutes to go, but the Orange rallied by scoring the game's final seven points to pull out a 63-60 win. Syracuse finished the year ranked No. 12 nationally after going 27-8 and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

• The Tribe upset a pair of ACC foes who went on to the NCAA Tournament in 2009-10. W&M became the first team to win at Joel Coliseum in November, knocking off Wake Forest, 78-68. Later in the season, the Tribe posted an 83-77 win at Maryland. The Terps went on to earn a share of the ACC regular season title. It marked the first time in the history of the CAA that a team won on the road at two ACC opponents in the same season.

Record Setting Steals
• In its season-opening win over Bridgewater, the Tribe set a program record with 22 steals. The previous W&M record was 18 set in 1981 against VMI and 1991 vs. Virginia Wesleyan.
• Along with the school mark, W&M equaled the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) record for steals in a game. The Tribe tied George Mason's league record of 22 steals against Delaware State on Nov. 25, 1995.
• In total, 11 of the 13 Tribe players to see action on Saturday recorded a steal. Freshman Justin Pierce led the way with four swipes followed by three apiece from senior Omar Prewitt and juniors Greg Malinowski and David Cohn.
• Overall, the Tribe forced 25 Bridgewater turnovers and converted those miscues into 36 points on the offensive end. The Green and Gold outscored the Eagles, 36-12, in points off turnovers.

Defensive Superlatives
• Along with its school and CAA record 22 steals, the Tribe put up impressive defensive numbers against Bridgewater.
• The Tribe held Bridgewater without a 3-point field goal on Saturday. The Eagles, who averaged 7.3 3-pointers per game last season, misfired on all 16 of its 3-point attempts against W&M.
• It marked the first time in 316 games that W&M held an opponent without a 3-pointer. The last time, the Green and Gold held VCU without a 3-pointer on 10 attempts in the opening round of the CAA Tournament in 2006.
• W&M held Bridgewater to just 44 points, which marked the fewest for a Tribe opponent since it limited Shenandoah to 44 points in 2010. Coupled with its 96-point offensive output, the Green and Gold posted its largest margin of victory in 17 years. The 52-point gap was the biggest for the Tribe since defeating Washington College by 53, 92-39, to open the 1999-2000 season.
• The Eagles shot just 31.4 percent (16-of-51) from the floor on Saturday. The Tribe jumped out to a 33-point halftime lead thanks to part to holding the visitors to just 29.2 percent (7-of-24) shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

First Impressions
• Freshmen Justin Pierce and Nathan Knight enjoyed strong collegiate debuts against Bridgewater on Saturday. The duo combined for 25 points, 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and five steals.
• Playing just 18 minutes off the bench, Pierce topped W&M in points (17), rebounds (6) and steals (4). The Tribe rookie connected on 7-of-9 from the floor, including a pair of dunks. His 17 points were the most for a Tribe player making his freshman debut since David Schneider in 2006. A Second Team All-CAA in 2010, Schneider had 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists at Kansas State in his career debut.
• Knight tallied eight points and five rebounds, including four on the offensive side, in his first game as a collegian.
• After having his first two seasons limited by injury, redshirt sophomore Paul Rowley made his first career start and turned in his best game wearing the Green and Gold. Rowley scored a career-high 10 points, including a 2-of-4 effort from 3-point range, to go with a team-best two blocked shots in 21 minutes.

On the Break
• An emphasis of the Tribe offense is "First 10, Last 10," meaning head coach Tony Shaver wants his team to get out in transition and shoot within the first 10 seconds of the shot clock or on the other side, run its offense and make the opponent defend in the half court.
• The Tribe flashed that ability to play in transition during its season-opening win over Bridgewater, outscoring the Eagles, 17-2, in fastbreak points.
• Last season, the Tribe produced double-digit fastbreak points in 12 games, including eight contests of 15 or more fastbreak points. Since 2010, W&M is 13-3 when scoring 15 or more points on the break in a game.
• In 2015-16, the Tribe averaged nearly 10 points per game (9.3) in transition and outscored its opponent by more than four points per game on the break.
• Since 2012-13, the Green and Gold is 29-8 (.784) when scoring 10 or more fastbreak points in a game. The Tribe is 38-15 (.717) when outscoring its opponents on the break over the last four seasons.
