RICHMOND, Va. - Recent William & Mary men's tennis graduate
Will Juggins added another award to the trophy case on Monday, garnering the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Juggins is the first Tribe player to earn the accolade for men's tennis, one of a CAA-best six W&M athletes to earn the honor this season and one of 60 Green and Gold stalwarts all-time.
Juggins graduated with an impressive grade point average, while majoring in finance and had already accepted a position at J.P. Morgan prior to leaving Williamsburg. He led the Tribe to the program's fourth CAA Championship in 2015, winning the clinching match at No. 2 in the finals against College of Charleston. For his efforts, Juggins was named the CAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. He was also a First Team All-CAA pick in doubles and a second-team honoree in singles for the second straight season. He posted 14 singles wins and 22 doubles victories during the 2014-15 campaign.
Along with his excellence on the court, Juggins was recognized on numerous occasions for his efforts in the classroom. He was a three-time W&M Provost Award winner and a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete selection. Juggins was also selected to the 2015 CAA All-Academic Team for men's tennis.
In addition to Juggins, the Tribe won three other Scholar-Athlete awards on Monday, with redshirt-junior
Brian Waterfield of men's track, senior
Ellen Shaffrey of women's lacrosse and junior
Emily Stites being honored. All four, along with swimmers
Justin Barden and
Megan Howard, advance to the ballot to select the overall men's and women's Scholar-Athletes of the Year in the CAA. Each of the 21 sport winners are eligible for the overall award, which W&M has won six times, more than the next two school's combined. In the 13-year history of the CAA Scholar-Athlete program, W&M has led the league in selections nine times, including the last three years with six honors each year. Overall, the Tribe has 60 honors, 24 more than any other school.
