HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (April 5, 2015) – The William and Mary lacrosse team fell at Hofstra, 13-8, on Sunday afternoon.

Hofstra (7-4, 2-0) built a 5-1 advantage in the opening 30 minutes, and W&M (5-7, 1-1) was unable to narrow the margin to less than three goals during the second half.

Senior Ellen Shaffrey led the Tribe with a team-high five goals – all of which came in the second half – and four draw controls, while freshman Abby Corkum provided four points (1g, 3a).

Defensively, sophomore Abby Junior totaled three caused turnovers and two ground balls, while senior Allison Henry added four ground balls.

HU jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the first half before senior Kaleigh Noon got W&M on the scoreboard with 10:39 showing. However, Noon's score was the College's lone goal of the first half, as the Pride added two more scores before the break to lead 5-1 at the intermission.

Although W&M struck first in the second half with a free position goal by Corkum (26:43), Hofstra responded with a 4-1 run to lead, 9-3, with 13:47 remaining.

While the College answered by rattling off three of the next four goals to narrow the margin to 9-5, it was unable to get any closer the rest of the way.

Hofstra outshot W&M, 24-20, and held narrow advantages in draw controls (13-10) and ground balls (19-16).

Tiana Parrella led HU with five points (3g, 2a), while Morgan Knox (3g, 1a) and Brittain Altomare (2g, 2a) added four points apiece.

The Tribe will return to action when it plays at Elon next Sunday at 1 p.m.
