HARRISONBURG, Va. – The William and Mary women's basketball team fell at first-place James Madison 92-50 on Thursday night. Senior Jazmen Boone led the Tribe with 16 points, she was the lone player in double-figures for the Green and Gold. With the decision the Tribe falls to 7-11, 1-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while James Madison improves to 16-2, 7-0 in league play.
Boone added four rebounds and three assists to go along with her team-high 16 points. Sophomore Marlena Tremba finished with eight points, four boards, a block and a steal.
James Madison opened the game with a 10-0 run to build an early 10-2 advantage. Precious Hall opened the run with a trey followed by six straight points from Lauren Okafor. The run ended on a layup from Ashley Perez.
Leading by 11, the Dukes used a 10-0 run and held the Tribe without a basket for more than five minutes midway through the opening stanza. Okafor sandwiched a basket in-between a pair of Hall jumpers to start the run. Jazmon Gwathmey hit a free throw followed by a layup by Perez and a jumper by Angela Mickens.
JMU took a 49-26 lead into the locker room, due in large part to strong shooting. The Dukes shot 48.6-percent (18-for-37) from the field, including 53.8-percent (7-for-13) from distance. W&M shot 40-percent (10-of-25) from the floor, but only hit 25-percent (1-for-4) from behind the arc in the first half.
The Dukes took control with an 8-0 run, building its lead to 31-points out of the gates in the second half. Hall started the scoring with a jumper, which was matched by back-to-back triples from Gwathmey and Hall.
James Madison built their lead to as large as 44-points in the second half and were clicking on all-cylinders offensively. The Dukes finished the game shooting 42.7-percent (32-of-75) from the floor, including 57.1-percent (12-of-21) from distance.
Sophomore Alexandra Masaquel chipped in six points, three rebounds, and an assist in her return from an injury, while senior Kyla Kerstetter finished with six points for the Green and Gold. Freshman Jeanne Gaumont made her first career start, recording two rebounds, a block and an assist.
Hall led the Dukes with 25 points and six rebounds, she was one of four JMU players in double-figures. Okafor finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, Perez scored 16, and Gwathmey finished with 12.
The College returns home for a two game home stand to close out the month of January. W&M welcomes Hofstra on Sunday, Jan. 25, before playing host to UNCW on Thursday, Jan. 29.
