Junior Michael Katz Named Louisville Slugger First-Team All-American

TUCSON, Ariz. – William and Mary baseball junior Michael Katz was named a Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger First-Team All-American on Thursday morning. He is the only Colonial Athletic Association player to receive the honor, while he is one of four players from the state of Virginia to be tabbed to an all-American team.

The Falls Church, Virginia native finished the season with a .363 batting average, 87 hits, 24 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs, scored 64 runs, and had a school record 75 RBIs. He posted a .646 slugging percentage, and a .445 on-base percentage. He ranks sixth in the country in doubles, seventh in home runs, sixth in runs scored, 10th in slugging percentage, second in RBIs, and fourth total bases.

Katz becomes the Tribe's first Louisville Slugger All-American since 2007, when Mike Sheridan received third-team honors. He is the first player since 2004 to receive the first-team nod, that year Chris Rahl was selected to the first team.

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper staff selected the three Louisville Slugger All-American teams. The 17-man first, chosen by performances up to regional play, features 11 conference player or pitchers of the year.

Katz, whose breakout 2014 season is not going unnoticed, has already been named the CAA Player of the Year, while brining home a first-team all-conference award. He is also a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award, which are given to the nation's best player.
