Dylan Hassett Powers to 10K Win at ECAC Championships

A historic win and two lifetime-best performances staked the William and Mary women's track and field team to a share of the lead on day one of the ECAC Championships on Friday night.  The Tribe scored 15 points off of two All-East performances, sharing the lead with fellow CAA school Northeastern and ahead of the other 17 teams that scored in the first three events.

Leading the way was junior Dylan Hassett (Alpharetta, Ga.), who won the 10,000m championship in 35:14.15.  It was the first-ever ECAC title for the Tribe at 10,000m, and the first in any event since 2008.  Hassett was also the CAA Champion at 10,000m two weeks ago, making her just the sixth W&M woman to unite both the CAA and ECAC titles in the same event.  These two weeks mark the first two conference titles of Hassett's career.

Also running on Friday night were sophomore Meghan McGovern (North Wales, Pa.) and junior Carolyn Hennessey (Herndon, Va.), both in the 5,000m.  McGovern finished fourth overall in 16:24.76, a lifetime-best by more than five seconds, and earned five points and All-East honors with the performance.  McGovern now ranks 10th in school history outdoors.  Hennessey also ran a lifetime-best by nearly 10 seconds, crossing the finish line in 16:32.76 for 10th place overall.  She vaulted up the Tribe leaderboards to 11th all-time, and also ducked in under the last time invited to last year's NCAA semifinals.

All three women now have the rest of the weekend to cheer on their teammates, beginning tomorrow with the javelin throw and the prelims of the 400m hurdles and the 4x800m relay.
