WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary men's tennis team closed out the home portion of the 2014 regular season schedule with a doubleheader sweep of UMBC and Morgan State on Sunday afternoon at the Millie West Tennis Facility. The Tribe opened the day with a 4-3 win over UMBC, before picking up a 7-0 triumph over Morgan State in the second tilt of the afternoon. The Tribe, which owns wins in 13 of its last 16 matches, pushed its season mark to 15-8 with the victories.
Against UMBC, Banks and senior
Ben Hoogland won their 10th straight to give W&M the early doubles advantage. The Green and Gold pair notched victory No. 20 on the year in dominating fashion, 8-2, over Alex Drean and Daniel Gray at the No. 2 doubles spot.
Following a Retriever win at the No. 3 post, Chaffee and Juggins picked up a tiebreaker win at No. 1 to clinch the initial point of the match. The Tribe duo jumped out to an early break advantage, but UMBC responded to even the match at six. The tilt went to a tiebreaker, before Chaffee and Juggins won the final three points of the breaker in pulling out an 8-7 (3) victory.
The Tribe claimed straight-sets singles wins at the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to cement the team triumph over UMBC. Appleby won his 10th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alex Drean at No. 3 to push the Tribe advantage to 2-0.
After a UMBC triumph at No. 2, the Tribe won the last two singles posts to secure the victory. Banks won at No. 6 as he topped Kamal Patel, 6-3, 6-1, before Niquet clinched the team victory for the fourth time this season with a win at No. 5. The Tribe rookie improved his perfect mark at the fifth singles spot to 12-0, while also upping his team-leading singles ledger to 20-9 with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Daniel Gray.
In the second match of the day, the Green and Gold swept doubles to garner in the initial point for the 18th time in 23 matches this season. Junior

Austin Davidow jump started the Tribe's doubles effort with a convincing 8-0 win over Jannick Tash and Dmitriy Borodkin at the No. 3 position. It marked the pair's first dual-match win of the season and second overall.
Playing together for the second time in two weeks, the freshman duo of Appleby and Niquet clinched the doubles point with a near flawless 8-1 triumph at No. 2 over the Morgan State brother duo of Josh and Ty Abraham. The Tribe duo improved to 2-0 on the year. Chaffee and Juggins rounded out the sweep with an 8-5 win over Duk Park and Evan Ward at the top spot. The Green and Gold pairing upped its ledger to 13-5 at No. 1 this season.
The Tribe dominated singles competition winning at all six positions in straight sets. Hoogland and Juggins each registered their 16th singles wins of the season at the top two positions. Hoogland bounced Duk Pak, 6-4, 6-4, for his seventh win at No. 1, while Juggins tallied his 30th career victory, upending Evan Ward, 6-2, 6-2, at the second slot.
Appleby and Banks each recorded their second wins of the day at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively. Appleby posted his fifth win in the last six matches with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Josh Abraham. He won his 11th match of the season and improved to 4-1 at the No. 3 post over the last five matches. Banks ran his season win total to 19, which ranks second on the team, by rolling past Ty Abraham, 6-1, 6-0. The Tribe senior notched his fourth win in the last five matches, while improving his impressive dual-match ledger to 15-5.
Sophomore
Scott Huang and Braig rounded out the Tribe sweep with victories at the fourth and sixth singles positions. Huang won his 10th tilt of the season, downing Dmitriy Borodkin, 6-0, 6-0, and Braig bounced Jannick Tash, 6-1, 6-1. Huang improved to 6-4 at No. 4 on the season, while Braig upped his dual-match record to 3-1.
The Tribe returns to action on Saturday, April 12, when it closes out the regular season at Old Dominion in a match-up with Optima Health Challenge implications. The contest carries a noon start time from the Folkes Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk. The Optima Health Challenge is an all-sports competition between the Hampton Roads schools and is in its third season. W&M leads the challenge, 40-35, and 10 points will be on the line in the men's tennis match-up on Saturday.
