Tribe Lacrosse Falls to Hofstra, 10-5

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 18, 2014)—The William and Mary lacrosse team fell to Hofstra, 10-5, at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Friday evening.

W&M (2-12, 0-4) owned an early 3-1 lead but was held scoreless for a span of more than 38 minutes as Hofstra (7-8, 1-2) capitalized with eight unanswered goals to secure the victory.

Junior Alexi Farmakis led the Tribe with three goals, while senior Taelor Salmon and sophomore Zoe Boger also added scores. Additionally, Salmon and senior Jenna Dougherty totaled three draw controls apiece.

Defensively, senior Holly Kramer registered two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while senior goalie Colleen Nofi posted nine saves.

Although W&M held a commanding 11-6 advantage in draw controls, Hofstra outshot the College, 24-19, and totaled two more ground balls (17-15).

Things looked good for the Tribe early, as it raced out to a 3-1 lead. Farmakis tallied the first two scores while Boger found the back of the cage with 18:48 showing.

However, HU closed the half with four unanswered goals to lead 5-3 at halftime. W&M nearly cut the margin to one with just 0:04 remaining in the initial stanza, but junior Kaleigh Noon's free position shot bounced off the left goalpost.

Hofstra extended its lead to 9-3 by scoring the first four goals of the second half.

Although Salmon's goal with 10:24 remaining ended the Pride's run and Farmakis followed with a free position score a few minutes later, W&M was unable to get any closer during the remainder of the contest.

Eight different players found the back of the cage for Hofstra, as Sam Lenox and Jenn Ward led the way with two goals apiece.

The Tribe will conclude its conference slate when it hosts Drexel on Sunday at 1 p.m.
