RICHMOND, Va. - Once again exemplifying the term student-athlete, William and Mary men's basketball senior
Tim Rusthoven was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Friday. It marks the third straight season in which a Tribe player has earned the honor and the sixth time in the 12-year history of the award.
Joining Rusthoven as a winter sport CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year was men's swimming senior
Andrew Strait, who was also the CAA Swimmer of the Year and of the CAA Championships this season. Rusthoven is the fifth player under W&M head coach
Tony Shaver to receive the distinction.
A senior majoring in business finance, Rusthoven excelled both on and off the court during his career at W&M. He was selected to the CAA All-Academic first team in men's basketball for the third year in a row, and earlier this season, was a nominee for the NABC Allstate Good Works team. Rusthoven was also the recipient of the CAA's prestigious Dean Ehlers Leadership Award, which honors a student-athlete for their leadership, integrity and sportsmanship through academic and athletic achievements. It marked the fourth time in the last five seasons that a Tribe player earned the valued league honor.
On the court, Rusthoven earned All-CAA honors for the second straight year. After earning third team honors last season, the 6-9 forward was a second team choice in 2014. He led the CAA in field goal percentage (59.0) this season, while ranking 13th in scoring (12.1 ppg) and 20th in rebounding (4.8 rpg). Rusthoven finished his career as one of only six players in W&M history to compile over 1,200 points and 600 rebounds in a career, ranking 16th in program annals in rebounding (600) and 20th in scoring (1205). He also capped his tenure with the Green and Gold ranking second in field goal percentage (56.6) and eighth in blocked shots (86).
