Michael Katz Headlines Four Baseball Student-Athletes Honored by College Sports Madness

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William and Mary baseball team had four student-athletes honored by College Sports Madness with preseason awards, announced by the publication over the past week.

Headlined by junior Michael Katz, who was named a preseason All-American, Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Player of the Year, and to the All-CAA First Team by College Sports Madness. Joining Katz on the CAA First Team is junior Jason Inghram and senior Ryan Lindemuth. Sophomore Ryan Hissey was named to College Sports Madness' CAA Second Team.

Katz was an offensive catalyst last year for the Tribe. He finished the 2013 season hitting a team-best .358 (76-for-212) with 23 doubles, one triple and 47 RBIs. The Falls Church, Va. native has already been named an All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He was also named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Team in January.

Inghram made 16 appearances, all starts, throwing 104.1 innings, including three complete games. He finished the season with a 3.36 ERA, allowing 48 runs (only 39 earned), while striking out a team-high 99 batters. The Chesapeake, Va. native was named to the Preseason All-CAA team after he earned third-team all-conference honors in 2013.

Lindemuth finished 2013 hitting .351 (88-for-251), he added 14 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and a team-best 49 RBIs. The NCBWA has already named him a Preseason All-American. Lindemuth was named to the Preseason All-CAA team, and was a second team selection after the 2013 regular season.

Hissey, who burst onto the scene during his freshman season last year, finished 2013 with a .281 batting average (64-for-228), he added 12 doubles and a home run, and 36 RBIs.  A solid defensive catcher, Hissey threw out 20 runners during the 2013 season. The West Chester, Pa native was an All-CAA preseason selection after he earned CAA All-Rookie honors a year ago.
