William and Mary senior
Jeremy Wells (Hopewell, Va.) was named the co-Golfer of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association Wednesday, in recognition of his championship effort earlier this week. This is the third award of the season for Wells.
Competing at the Whiting Turner Towson Invitational, Wells shot 216 (E) to win his first collegiate tournament by three strokes. His first-round 68 (-4) was a career-best, and ranks tied for eighth in school history for the best score in a single round. In addition to being his first win, it is also the first tournament medal for a Tribe golfer since 2008. Even more impressive, Wells did it while leading his teammates to W&M's first team championship since 2005. For the season, Wells' average of 72.73 strokes per round is the second-best in school history, and is helping the Tribe shoot a school-record 295.82 as a team.
William and Mary is back in action in two weeks, competing at N.C. State's Wolfpack Classic on Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21.
