Towson, Md. (April 12, 2013) – The William and Mary lacrosse team fell at Towson, 15-5, on Friday evening.
Senior Kyrstin Mackrides led W&M (4-9, 1-3) with two points on a goal and an assist, while sophomore Kaleigh Noon provided two assists. Senior Caitlin Murphy, junior Taelor Salmon, junior Jenna Dougherty and sophomore Ellen Shaffrey also added goals for the Tribe.
Towson (6-7, 4-0) took control of the contest early and scored the game's first five goals. Although Shaffrey found the back of the cage on an assist from Mackrides at the 10:01 mark, TU closed the half with a 4-0 run to lead, 9-1, at the intermission.
Although W&M recorded the initial goal of the second half on a free position score by Murphy, Towson answered with a 5-1 run to lead, 14-3, with 7:53 remaining.
The Tribe got late goals from Salmon and Dougherty, both coming on assists from Noon, but was unable to significantly cut into the margin down the stretch.
Towson outshot W&M, 33-16, and owned advantages in ground balls (16-15) and draw controls (13-9).
Rhiannon Coogle led TU with five goals, while Paige Duncan contributed four goals. Ashleigh Rohrback added six points on three goals and three assists.
The Tribe will return to action when it plays at Delaware on Sunday at 1 p.m.
