WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - For the second time this season, the William and Mary women's basketball team and Northeastern needed extra minutes to settle a score, but this time it was the Tribe who outdistanced itself, 14-6, in overtime for the 78-70 Colonial Athletic Association victory on Friday night at Kaplan Arena.  The win improves the Tribe's record to 6-17 overall and 4-8 in CAA play, while Northeastern falls to 13-9 on the season and 6-5 in league action.

Senior Emily Correal led four W&M players in double figure scoring with her sixth double-double of the season, which consisted of 27 points and 10 rebounds.  Senior Janine Aldridge poured in 15 points and three steals, while sophomore Jazmen Boone netted 13 points, three rebounds and three assists.  Sophomore Kyla Kerstetter rounded out the double figure output as the Brentwood, Tenn., native finished the night with 11 points to go along with six rebounds.

As a team, the Green and Gold finished the evening shooting 40.3 percent (27-of-67) from the floor, while it connected on five 3-pointers on 23 attempts.  From the foul line, the Tribe was 19-of-25 (76.0 percent), which included a clutch 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) mark in the overtime period.  W&M turned 24 Northeastern turnovers into 29 points, while it got a significant contribution from its bench in the way of 33 points. 

Both squads caught fire out of the gates as Aldridge cut the Huskies' advantage to four, 14-10, with 16:31 left to play in the opening half.  Courtesy of an 8-of-9 start from the field, Northeastern extended its margin to 23-12 when Kashaia Cannon netted a 3-pointer at the 13:47 mark.

After the Huskies went ahead 27-14 with 11:39 left in the stanza, the Green and Gold zapped the deficit courtesy of a 19-0 blitz in which the Tribe owned a 33-27 lead at the 7:57 mark.  Aldridge ignited the spurt with a jumper at the 11:17 juncture, while Kerstetter's trifecta gave the Tribe the six-point stranglehold.  The stretch was fueled by Aldridge's eight points, Kerstetter's six points, Correal's four points and Boone's free-throw. 

Freshman Brooke Stewart gave W&M a seven-point advantage, 38-31, after she connected from downtown off of an assist from Correal at the 4:17 juncture.  Towards the end of the half, both teams clamped down defensively as Northeastern scored the last points of the stanza with 2:33 remaining but W&M owned the edge at intermission, 38-33.

Northeastern struck first in the final 20 minutes as Cannon's 3-pointer cut the Tribe lead to two, 38-36, just 53 seconds into the frame.  However, the Tribe responded by outscoring the Huskies 18-5 over the ensuing eight minutes of action as it took its largest lead of the night, 56-41, with 11:06 left in regulation.  Once again, it was the duo of Aldridge and Kerstetter, who opened and closed the stretch, respectively.

Not to be outdone, Northeastern fought its way back into affair with a run of its own.  With 2:25 left to play in regulation, Jewel Tunstull's lay up gave the Huskies its first lead of the half, 62-60.  Minutes later, Tunstull increased the NU advantage to three, 64-61, with another lay up at the 1:07 mark,

On its most important possession of the night, the Tribe executed as Correal's lay up off of Aldridge's feed got W&M to within 64-63 with 47 seconds remaining.  After a defensive stop, Correal was fouled on the ensuing possession and netted 1-of-2 free-throws, which tied the affair, 64-64, with 11 seconds left in regulation.  On the last possession of regulation, the Tribe suffocated Northeastern defensively as the Huskies weren't able to get off a game-winning look.

In the overtime session, the Tribe never trailed as Kerstetter's free-throw at the 3:29 mark put W&M up for good, 67-66.  After Kerstetter's foul shot, the Green and Gold scored the next four points as its margin extended to 71-66 with 2:07 left to play.  For the most part, overtime was a two-possession game throughout until a pair of Boone free-throws in the final moments put the contest out of reach.

Kashaia Cannon led Northeastern with 27 points, while Deanna Kerkhof chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds.  The Huskies finished the contest shooting 26-of-55 (47.3 percent) from the field, which included a 13-of-31 (41.9 percent) performance from 3-point range.
