WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary men's basketball team suffered a 59-48 setback to Drexel on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena. The Tribe fell to 7-10 overall and 1-5 in CAA play, while Drexel improved to 6-11 on the year, including a 2-3 league action.

Junior Tim Rusthoven led the Tribe in scoring for the second straight game with 19 points and six rebounds to go along with a career-high tying three blocked shots. The 6-9 forward was 6-of-12 from the floor, making his only 3-point attempt, while going a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Marcus Thornton added 14 points on 4-of-6 from 3-point range, while junior Brandon Britt finished with 13 points.

Drexel scored the first four points of the contest on the way to taking an 11-5 advantage on a 3-pointer from Frantz Massenat at the 13:34 mark. The Green and Gold answered with a 7-1 run to pull even at 12. Four straight W&M free throws pulled the Tribe within 12-9 at the 11:29 mark. On the defensive end, Rusthoven blocked a shot that eventually led to a baseline drive from Britt. The Chesapeake, Va., native scored the hoop and drew the harm, knocking down the free throw. His conventional 3-point play tied the contest at 12 with 10:40 remaining in the opening half.

Drexel answered with five quick points as Massenat drove the lane for a lay-up, before Damion Lee drilled a triple to put the Dragons back on top, 17-12, at the 9:04 mark. W&M drew within two points on a Thornton trey, but a pair of Drexel 3-pointers, including one from Lee in the waning seconds of the opening half sent the visitors to the locker room with a 32-24 lead.

The Tribe twice drew within six points in the opening two minutes of the second half on buckets from Rusthoven. Back-to-back Drexel jumpers though pushed deficit to double-digits for the first time just over three minutes into the second half.

A pair of Rusthoven free throws cut the gap back to eight, before Drexel force a Tribe timeout scoring five straight points to push the lead to 13, 44-31, with 11:25 remaining. The Dragon lead reached as many as 16, 50-34, with 6:59 remaining, and the College could get no closer than nine, 57-48, on an old-fashion 3-point play with 32 seconds remaining in the contest.

For the game, W&M struggled from the floor, shooting just 32.7 percent (16-of-49). The Tribe shot 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from 3-point range and was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line. The College turned the ball over a season-low five times.

Drexel shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the field, including an 8-of-19 effort (42.1 percent) from 3-point range. The Dragons held a 35-26 advantage on the glass. Massenat led Drexel in scoring with 19 points to go with four assists, while Lee finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior forward Dartaye Ruffin just missed a double-double with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Tribe hits the road for a Wednesday, Jan. 23, night contest at Northeastern. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. tip from Matthews Arena in Boston. The Huskies currently sit atop the CAA standings at 6-0 in league play. Tribe fans can catch the action over the Tribe Radio Network with Jay Colley on the call.
