HARRISONBURG, Va. -
After enjoying his finest season on the mound in a Green and Gold uniform,
senior RHP Matt Davenport was named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher
of the Year on Tuesday night from the annual CAA baseball banquet held in
Harrisonburg, Va. Along with garnering
Pitcher of the Year Honors, the former Nansemond-Suffolk Academy standout was
named to the All-CAA First Team. Joining
Davenport with all-conference recognitions were sophomore third baseman Ryan
Lindemuth, who earned third-team honors and freshman first baseman Michael
Katz, who registered rookie-team accolades.
For the year, Davenport amassed an ERA of 1.73 to go along
with seven wins. In his 109.1 innings of
work, the Chesapeake, Va., native fanned 90 batters, while allowing just 16
walks. On May 21, Davenport was named
CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after a phenomenal
outing against Hofstra. In the game
against the Pride, Davenport silenced one of the nation's best hitting teams as
he pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits and no walks, while
tallying a career-high 12 strikeouts.
Davenport finished the season ranking first in the CAA in strikeouts (90)
and second in both ERA and opposing batting average (.210).
With the honor, Davenport is just the fifth W&M pitcher
to earn All-CAA First-Team accolades.
The 2012 first-team distinction is the third time that Davenport has
been named to an all-conference team. In
2009, Davenport was named to the all-rookie team, and in 2010, he garnered
first-team honors. Davenport draws the
curtain shut on an impressive career.
All-time in school history, Davenport ranks first in multiple career
categories. His career ERA (3.26), complete
games (8), shutouts (3), and innings pitched (336.2) rank first in the Green
and Gold annals. Davenport's 23 career
wins, and 268 strikeouts ranks second all-time in W&M history.
After a successful freshman campaign in 2011, Lindemuth's
sophomore campaign didn't dissapoint as the Burke, Va., native led the Tribe in
hits, batting average and slugging percentage en route to earning Third-Team
All-CAA honors. For the year, Lindemuth
batted .376 with 48 runs batted in, 80 hits and a slugging percentage of
.563. Lindemuth led the Green and Gold
with 23 multiple hit games, while registering 11 multiple RBI games. The sophomore third baseman connected on five
home runs and tied team-highs with 54 runs scored and 17 doubles. In the season's finale week, the former Lake
Braddock standout was sensational as he earned the CAA Player of the Week
distinction. For the week, Lindemuth
batted .682 with a slugging percentage of 1.091 to go along with 15 hits, nine
RBIs, four doubles and a home run. In
the season finale at Hofstra on May 19, he connected on a career-high six hits,
while tallying three runs scored against the Pride.
Bursting on to the scene in a big way this year was freshman
first baseman Michael Katz, who took home All-CAA Rookie Team accolades. For the year, Katz compiled an average of
.316 to go along with a team-high 58 RBIs and 10 home runs. On April 9, the Falls Church, Va., native
earned CAA Rookie of the Week accolades after batting .318 for the week, which
included eight RBIs, eight runs scored, seven hits and two home runs. Katz capped off an impressive first season
ranking second in the CAA in RBIs and fourth in home runs.
