Josh Hardin (Sterling, Va.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Track Athlete of the Week Tuesday, after turning in the nation's finest 10,000m performance of 2012 on Friday night at the Tribe Invitational. This is the first CAA weekly award of 2012 for the Tribe track and field team.
Hardin was the victor in the race that saw the top three times of the spring so far at 10,000m, crossing the finish line in 29:28.07. In addition to being an IC4A-qualifying mark, the time figures to make Hardin one of the top contenders in the NCAA East Semifinals at the end of the May. The top 48 times in the East and West will compete in two semifinals, with the top 12 finishers in each race advancing to the NCAA finals. In the Tribe record books, Hardin's top was the 16th-fastest ever run, while the redshirt-sophomore himself ranks eighth all-time in school history among athletes.
Hardin and his teammates return to action this weekend, traveling to Richmond to compete in the Fred Hardy Invitational on Friday night and Saturday.
