WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 12, 2012) - The

Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

W&M (2-4)
currently leads the Colonial Athletic Association in assists per game (4.33)
and draw controls per game (12.0), while it ranks second in shooing percentage
(.493) and third in points per game (15.5).
Individually,
sophomore Taelor Salmon leads the team with 15 goals and ranks fourth in the
conference with 2.5 goals per game. Senior Maggie Anderson also ranks among the
league's top five in assists per game (1.17) and points per game (3.0).
Freshman goalie Lucy Ferguson ranks third in the league with 9.17 saves per
game.
After opening
its season with three straight wins, Virginia has lost its last three contests
- all of which have come against nationally-ranked teams. Josie Owen leads the
Cavaliers with 25 points on 10 goals and 15 assists, while Ainsley Baker and
Liza Blue both have 10 goals apiece.
Although
Virginia leads the all-time series with W&M, 28-17-1, two of the last three
meetings have been decided by just a single goal. Last season, UVA rallied back
from a seven-goal second half deficit to earn a narrow 14-13 win in
Charlottesville.
Wednesday's
contest will mark the fourth top-10 opponent W&M has played in its opening
seven games, as it previously faced fifth-ranked Duke, second-ranked Maryland
and top-ranked Northwestern.
