Tribe Returns Home to Host Hofstra

Williamsburg, Va. - The William and Mary men's basketball returns to the friendly confines of Kaplan Arena for its final two regular season games, starting with Hofstra on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.

Fans can catch the action over the Tribe Radio Network with Jay Colley and Bill McDonald on the call. The Tide 92.3 FM in Williamsburg is the flagship station of the Tribe Radio Network and the broadcast can be heard over the Web at TribeAthletics.com.

Storylines
- Hofstra leads the all-time series with the Tribe at 13-5, but the Green and Gold have won two of the last three contests in Williamsburg. Three of the last five meetings between the two teams have been decided by a single possession, including a pair of three-point wins for the Pride last season.

- In each of the last three games, the Tribe placed four players in double figures. It marks the first time in 15 years that the College pulled the trick. The last time W&M placed four players in double digits in four straight games was during the 1995-96 season.

- Sophomore guard Brandon Britt, who scored a season-high 24 points against Northeastern on Feb. 11, is averaging 13 points per game over the Tribe's last six contests.

- Senior forward Quinn McDowell is just eight minutes shy of breaking the school record for minutes played in a career. He has played 3978 career minutes and is on track to break David Schneider's mark of 3985 vs. Hofstra.

- Sophomore Tim Rusthoven tallied his third double-double of the year at VMI with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He is averaging 11 points and 7.5 rebounds per game over the last 11 contests.

Scouting Hofstra
Hofstra comes into the midweek affair with the Tribe off an 81-69 victory over Siena in BracketBusters. The Pride, under the direction of second-year head coach Mo Cassara, is 9-20 overall and 2-14 in CAA play after posting 21 wins and advancing to the CAA Semifinals last season.

Offensively, Hofstra averages 64.7 points per game and ranks second in the CAA in free throw shooting at 71.9 percent. On defense, the Pride allows 66.4 points per game. They rank fourth in the CAA in steals per game (7.9) and third in turnovers margin (+1.7), forcing opponents into 15.7 turnovers per game. The Pride is fifth in the CAA in offensive rebounds at 12.1 per game.

Senior guard Mike Moore leads CAA in scoring at 19.5 points per game, which ranks 21st nationally. He is a threat from 3-point range, ranking among the top five in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (38.2) and 3-pointers made per game (2.4). Moore ranks 15th in the CAA in field goal percentage (41.8) and seventh in steals per game (1.8). Senior Nathaniel Lester is eighth in the CAA at 14.4 points per game, while coming in 10th at 6.7 rebounds per game. Senior point guard Dwan McMillan ranks second in the CAA at 4.5 assists per game.

Hofstra leads the all-time series with the Tribe at 13-5. Last season, W&M and the Pride met on three occasions with Hofstra pulling out wins in all three contests, including a pair of three-point victories during the regular season. The Green and Gold has won two of the last three meetings between the programs in Williamsburg.

Scoring in Numbers
In each of the Tribe's last three games, W&M placed four players in double digits against Northeastern on Feb. 11, at Drexel on Feb. 14 and at VMI on Feb. 18. It marked the first time in 15 years that the Tribe produced back-to-back-to-back games with four players in double figures. In the win over Northeastern, sophomore Brandon Britt paced W&M with 24 points, while freshman Marcus Thornton and sophomore Tim Rusthoven added 14 points each to go along with senior Quinn McDowell's 13 points. At Drexel, Thornton scored a team-high 13 points, while Britt tallied 12 points. Rusthoven and senior Kendrix Brown chipped in 11 points apiece against the Dragons. McDowell led the Tribe with 15 points at VMI, while Rusthoven and Britt tallied 14 apiece to go along with 13 points from junior Matt Rum. The Tribe last pulled the feat in February of 1997 when the Green and Gold placed four players in double figures in contests against American, George Mason and James Madison. W&M put four players in double digits in four straight games during the 1995-96 season when it pulled the trick against East Carolina, UNCW, Old Dominion and George Mason during the month of February.

Rusthoven's Consistency
Sophomore forward Tim Rusthoven has been the Tribe's most consistent performer and ranks among the CAA leaders in scoring and rebounding. In eight of the Tribe's last 11, Rusthoven has scored in double figures and is averaging 11 points and 7.5 rebounds per game over the 11-game stretch. In 20 of his 23 games this season, Rusthoven has scored seven or more points, including 13 double-digit performances. On the year, Rusthoven ranks 27th in the CAA at 10.3 points per game, while ranking 12th in rebounding at 6.6 per contest. He is the first Tribe forward since the 2004-05 season to average at least 10 points and six rebounds per game. Rusthoven ranks fourth in the CAA, shooting 52.5 percent from the floor.

3-Point Marksman
After starting out the season slow from long range, freshman guard Marcus Thornton is connecting at a high rate from distance over the last six games. The Upper Marlboro, Md., native hit 13 of his last 22 attempts from 3-point range, which is a 59.1 percent clip. In league games only, Thornton ranks fourth in the CAA at 41.4 percent from 3-point range. In the opening 23 games of the year, he shot just 28.4 percent (21-of-74) from 3-point range, averaging less than a 3-pointer per game. Over the last six games, Thornton is hitting 2.2 3-pointers per game and has connected on more than three 3-pointers in a trio of contests, including a career-high five against VCU on Feb. 1. In games against Northeastern and at Drexel, Thornton was 3-of-4 from 3-point range in raising his season 3-point percentage to 35.4 percent.

Shooting Against the Nation's Elite
The Tribe showed its ability to shoot the ball at a high level even against one of the nation's top defenses on Feb. 14 against Drexel. The Dragons entered the contest with the Tribe at No. 19 nationally in field goal percentage defense (38.8) and second in the country holding opponents to just 26.9 percent from 3-point range. The College top those averages by a significant margin and produced the top shooting performances from both the field and 3-pointer range in a CAA against the Dragons. W&M connected on 49 percent (24-of-49) from the field, including a 60 percent (15-of-25) clip in the second half, to go along with hitting on 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from 3-point range.

McDowell Set School Record, Eyes Another Mark
With his appearance at Drexel on Feb. 14, senior forward Quinn McDowell became the Tribe's career leader in games played with his 122nd appearance. He passed former teammate and 2010 graduate David Schneider, who previously held the record at 121 games played. McDowell has started 108 of his career 123 games, including each of his last 107 appearances. He also ranks second in W&M history with 3,978 career minutes played, which is just seven behind Schneider's school-record mark.

Britt Bounce Back
Over the Tribe's last six games, sophomore guard Brandon Britt has flashed the abilities that made him a CAA All-Rookie selection a season ago. During the stretch, the Chesapeake, Va., native is averaging 13 points, while shooting 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the floor.

Against Northeastern on Feb. 11, Britt turned in a standout performance on both ends of the court. Not only did he finish with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting, he shut down Northeastern junior Jonathan Lee, who entered the game eighth in the CAA at nearly 15 points per game. Britt held Lee scoreless on 0-of-5 shooting and forced the Husky point guard into four turnovers compared to one assist. The Tribe sophomore also turned in an impressive showing against VCU on Feb. 1, scoring 19 points and tallying season highs in rebounds (4) and assists (4) to go along with a career-high tying three steals. He added 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting at CAA-leading Drexel on Feb. 14 and 14 points at VMI on Feb. 18.
