RADFORD, Va. - The William and Mary women's basketball team fell at Radford, 72-55, on Saturday evening from the Dedmond Center.  Senior forward Emily Correal scored a career-high 28 points and became the 16th player in program history to net 1,000 career points (1,007).  The Green and Gold trimmed a halftime deficit to single digits on multiple occasions during the second half, but Radford held on for its fourth victory of the season (4-4). With the setback, the Tribe falls to 2-6 on the year. 

Not only did Correal pour in a career-best point total, but the Venetia, Pa., native set another career mark with five steals.  The pre-season All-CAA selection finished the contest shooting 10-of-17 from the floor and 8-of-8 from the foul line to go along with six rebounds and four assists.

Senior Jaclyn McKenna scored nine points and recorded five rebounds, while classmate Janine Aldridge chipped in six points, five rebounds and three assists.  Senior Taylor Hilton added six points, three rebounds and one steal.   

W&M finished the contest shooting 18-of-50 (36 percent) from the field.  The College was solid from the foul line as it connected on 80 percent (16-of-20) of its attempts.  The Green and Gold outscored Radford, 26-20, in the paint, while it forced 17 Highlander turnonvers.

In the early going, the College's defense was stout, as Radford started the contest shooting 1-of-8 (12.5 percent) from the floor.  W&M utilized its defensive effort into a 5-2 lead when Correal netted a pair of free throws at the 14:39 mark.

After its slow start, Radford responded with a run (10-2) and led 15-7 with 7:19 remaining in the opening stanza.  The Highlanders pushed the margin to double-digits, 27-17, when Aisha Foy connected on a 3-pointer at the 3:31 juncture.

Aldridge cut the RU margin to eight, 27-19, after the Massapequa, N.Y., native drilled a pair of free throws at the 3:06 mark.  The Highlanders ended the half scoring seven of the final nine points, which included Ayana Avery's 3-pointer from half-court as time expired, giving Radford a 37-23 lead at intermission.

An energized Tribe squad started the second half on a quick 8-2 spurt.  Six of those points came courtesy of Correal, who cut the deficit to eight, 39-31, after netting two free throws at the 16:03 juncture.

The two squads traded buckets for the majority of the half, as the Tribe trimmed the margin to single digits, through out the half, but never closer than seven points. 

With Radford maintaining the lead, 62-52, at the 2:50 mark, W&M mounted a final charge.  McKenna's 3-pointer from the top of the arc zapped the Highlander lead to 62-55 at the 2:41 juncture.  However, on its very next possession, with the shot-clock winding down, RU drew a foul and proceed to net both free throws, which thwarted off any Tribe chance at a comeback.   

Avery led Radford with 17 points while Foy chipped in with 16.  RU finished the contest shooting 24-of-64 (38.7 percent) from the floor, while posting a 30.0 percent (9-of-30) performance from 3-point territory.    

After a 12-day hiatus, due to final exams, the Tribe returns to action on Friday, Dec. 21, when it travels to North Carolina A&T.  Tip-off from Greensboro, N.C. is slated for noon.
