RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 19, 2012)-William
and Mary senior cornerback/punt returner B.W. Webb was selected as the 2012
Colonial Athletic Association co-Special Teams Player of the Year, while he and
eight other Tribe players garnered 11 all-conference honors based on voting by
the league's 11 head coaches.
In addition to
being honored as the co-special teams player of the year, Webb was chosen as a
first-team all-league selection as a cornerback and a second-team choice as a
punt returner. With the honors, the Newport News, Va., native finishes his
outstanding collegiate career with nine all-conference accolades.
Sophomore wide
receiver Tre McBride, senior left tackle Mike Salazar, senior linebacker Jabrel Mines and senior strong safety Brian Thompson earned second-team all-conference
honors, while senior defensive tackle Nick Zaremba, redshirt freshman linebacker Luke Rhodes, junior free safety Jerome Couplin III and junior punter Drake Kuhn all
garnered third-team distinction.
One of the
nation's top players in 2012, Webb was selected to the Buchanan Award Watch
List as well as the Senior Bowl Watch List. En route to earning special teams
player of the year honors, Webb averaged 11.2 yards per punt return while
ranking third in the league with 123 punt return yards. Additionally, he
returned a punt 91 yards for a touchdown against Delaware. Defensively, Webb
finished the season with 46 tackles, eight PBUs, two fumble recoveries, a
forced fumble and a tackle for a loss.
An outstanding
player for W&M during his entire career, Webb was a four-year starter and
earned a school-record 48 starts. Additionally, he ranks among W&M's
all-time top 10 in career interceptions (11) and punt return yards (603).
After playing
as a true freshman last season, McBride emerged as one of the CAA's top wide receivers
this fall and earned second-team all-league distinction. The McDonough, Ga.,
native ranked second in the conference in touchdown receptions (10), third in
yards per catch (16.3), fourth in receiving yards per game (81.5), seventh in
receptions per game (5.0) and ninth in all-purpose yards per game (102.7).
Additionally, he posted three 100+ yard receiving games and four
multi-touchdown games, while his 10 touchdown catches ranks tied for fifth on
W&M's single-season list.
Salazar also
earned second-team all-conference accolades after anchoring the Tribe's
offensive line this season. The Lawrenceville, N.J., native started all 34
games during the past three seasons, including the last 22 contests at left
tackle.
After
garnering third-team All-CAA honors last season, Mines was a second-team choice
this fall after another outstanding campaign. A co-captain, Mines was one of
W&M's top tacklers this season and ranked 10th in the league in tackles per
game (6.7) among linebackers. In addition to totaling 74 stops, he posted five
tackles for a loss, a half sack, an interception and two forced fumbles.
Thompson, also
a co-captain, joined Mines on the All-CAA second team, which marked the
second-consecutive season in which he has earned the honor. The Somerset, N.J.,
native ranked 10th in the conference in passes defended (eight) and tackles per
game among defensive backs (6.2). Although he posted a number of outstanding
performances versus conference opponents, one of his best efforts came in the season
opener at Maryland when he was honored as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
The Tribe's
top defensive lineman this season, Zaremba earned third-team all-conference
honors after totaling 24 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss and a half sack. One
of his best performances came against Maine when he totaled a pair of TFLs.
One of the
nation's top freshmen in 2012, Rhodes was among just 16 players selected to the
Jerry Rice Award Watch List earlier this season. En route to earning third-team
all-conference accolades, the Hollidaysburg, Pa., native ranked third on the
team with 72 tackles while also posting four tackles for a loss, three PBUs and
a forced fumble. While he was honored as the CAA Rookie of the Week following
the Georgia State game, he also posted outstanding efforts at Maryland (11
tackles, 1.5 TFL) and James Madison (13 tackles).
Couplin earned
his first all-conference honor this season after leading W&M with 91
tackles. In addition to ranking fifth in the CAA with 8.3 tackles per game, the
average ranked first among the league's defensive backs. The Upper Marlboro,
Md., native's final stats also included three interceptions, two tackles for a
loss, seven passes defended and two forced fumbles.
Kuhn also
garnered his first career all-league selection after ranking third in the CAA
and 16th nationally in punting average (42.4). The Williamsburg, Va., native
totaled 11 punts of 50 yards or longer and pinned the opposition inside the
20-yard line 16 times.
